In Vitro with Hydrosalpinx....Anyone Had Any Problem with Pregnancy?

My husband and I are going through IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)
We have a March 7th start date. My concern is that my tubes are completely blocked due to many previous surgeries in my abdomen. This has caused me to develope Hydrosalpinx
which is a condition in which your body is dumping toxins (fluids) back into the Uterus. This is particularly concerning because whatever is put in the uterus or carried in the uterus (Embryo or baby)...there is toxins dumping on them throughout the pregnancy. This could also reduce the chance of IVF working.... My fertility specialist said that she has had several patience with this condition...and it has not posed a problem.... my question is...does anyone know anyone that has had this? And did it pose a problem? Just trying to calm my nerves and wish to hear any stories you may have!! Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

ok- I forgot to add this part. The reason the Dr is so hesitant in going in to surgically fix the tubes is because of all my adhesions from previous surgeries. They can not go in vaginally or laproscopically (I do not have a belly button to go through because when I was born, all my insides were on the outside-called Gastroscesis)
If I were do do surgery, it would have to be an open surgery and then would cause more adhesions (scar tissue)..... I am also 4 hours away from the nearest fertility clinic. The nearest one is in Oklahoma City, OK.

I am not sure who your fertility specialist is, but I went to the fertility clinic in Colorado where they have the best rates in the United States & was told that a hydrosalpinx can be embryo-toxic & I needed to have my tubes tied to achieve a successful pregnancy. Is your fertility specialist with a group that has high success rates? You can look up their rates on the CDC website. If you need the link, I'll google it & get it to you. Break a leg:)

Sound like you need to have a hystosalpingogram its an x ray of the falopiean tubes... very common prior to an IVF or any infertility issue and should be done if conceiving is a problem. in many cases it can actually clean the tubes right out and allow the tubes to work better than ever!
I had one done and it hurts a little like a pelvic exam...

I had an ectopic pregnancy and my other tube was just what you have. My IVF doctors said they wouldn't do the procedure until I had a tubal ligation to close off the chance of those toxins coming back through the tube.
Then they did IVF the first time and I have three-month-old twins now. If it doesn't work, you're just going to have to keep paying to do it over and over again and probably have a tubal anyway to have success.

I also had this problem on one side. I previously had the ovary removed on that same side so they went and removed the tube before doing IVF. I am surprised that they are not tying it off before doing the procedure since it is toxix to the embryo.

I had this exact condition when we went through IVF two years ago (we now have beautiful twin two year old boys). I was never told that leaving things "as is" was okay... in fact, I was told rather the opposite. My Doc said IVF was likely not to work if the fluids were leaking back into the uterus... that the embryo was not likely to attach to the uterine wall in this environment. As I recall, the procedure to clip my tubes (and prevent the drainage) was a rather simple outpatient procedure that took place a month or two before we tried the IVF again.

Now, of course, science may have changed quite alot in two years (and +/-9 months!), but that's what I was told in March 2006.

Best of luck to you, and remember to try to keep your spirits up and a positive perspective. That's 1/2 the battle!

I had this same problem. My fertility specialist removed both of my tubes so that this would not reverse or cause any problems during my IVF procedures. I had no problems with both of my pregnancies once the tubes were removed. I would check around with other IVF specialists.

I agree about getting a second opionion. My doctor wouldn't even consider me for IFV until I had my hydro tubes removed. I wanted the best chance possible for getting pregnant and having a healthy baby so I didn't hesitate to have it done. I didn't like that it slowed the process down but it was so worth it because my little IVFer is 7 years old now. Good luck in your IVF journey!
