In Need of an Orthodontist near Winter Springs

My daughter needs to get braces, only on her front, top 4 teeth. She had an expander b/c her mouth was too small about 2 years ago. She is only 10 now but right now her 2 eye teeth are stuck b/c they have no room to come in. I am pretty new to the area. I went to the ortho that our dentists sent us to & was blown away by the price. I am from Washington State & I am not sure if our cost there was 1/2 of what is is here, or if I went to an office that overcharges or is just very high. I went to Dunn & Stavano(? not sure on spelling). My daughter needs these on for 10 months & then a permanent retainer just behind the teeth that need to be moved together. So the Ortho said for 10 months of visits & the braces that will only go on 4 teeth on the top, they quoted me $4800. My friend in Washington paid for 24 months visits & a full set & it was only $2000. I am definately confused & blown away b/c after they finish the 10 months with my daughter, they want to wait one year & then put a whole set on her b/c of a wrong bite which I was never made aware of before. Her dentist at home never said anything about her bite & neither did the dentist here. I am not going to worry about the full set right yet but I am hoping some of you Mom's out there can give me some names of some Orthodontists that are good, nice & priced right. Thank you so much for your help. I love Mamasource!

My daughter needed a pallete expander and we went to 3 different orthos and fell in love with Dr. Dann's office. He has 2 offices- one is on Aloma between Forsyth and where Aloma crosses Howell Branch. I have no idea what they charge for braces, but I feel like they are pretty honest in that office. Also, it seems to me that a vast majority (if not all) of ortho procedures are basically elective for cosmetic reasons, so I would imagine in this economy that a lot of people are NOT running out to get braces right now. Once they quote you a price, you have nothing to lose by telling them you really like their office and want to give them your business but can't afford their quoted price and would they be willing to give you a discount. I know for my daughter's expander, they had a discount if you paid in full, but I would ask for an even bigger discount, and quote them an amount you have budgetted for. The worse they can do is say no, but if they do they know they are turning away business in a time when they may not be able to afford to do so.

We love our Orthodontist in Winter Park - Dr. David McIntosh. I have two children in braces right now (ugh!) -- my middle child (girl, age 10) is doing the expander part now and will need a phase two in a few years. My older child/teen (boy, 13) has braces on to straighten his teeth and tighten up some spaces. They have been great with both children and prices were reasonable.

They also have an office in Maitland. Not sure which would be closer to Winter Springs - but either would be worth the drive!

Hi S., Tammi gave you some excellent advice. We have been going to Dr. Dann for years and years. I like the guy and the office staff, but do what Tammi said. I would further advise you to get second opinions. Too long of a story to describe here, but I find that sometimes (Dr. Dann included) doctors kind of use you or your children as guinea pigs, at your expense! Sure, they can do whatever, but you pay for it. Take Tammi's advice, negotiate! Wish I had known that was possible...especially in today's economy, I think they'd be up for it! But, then, lol, take my advice as well and take the time to look around. Good luck!!!
