Where do you live? I, as a mother of a preschooler, would love the idea of having an in home pre-school.
I am wondering if anyone knows of any in-home preschool programs. I am in the process of getting licensed as a in-home daycare provider and have been thinking about doing a in-home preschool with my sister. I have a teaching degree but dont know if there would be any demand for this. I am thinking that I would do a 3 hour program 4-5 days per week and have two sessions; morning and afternoon. I guess, I have 2 questions; If anyone knows of a preschool out of the home and if any moms would even consider an in-home preschool. Any response/advice would be great. Thanks
Thanks so much for the responses. I've decided that I am going to do a in-home preschool but am deciding on how to format it; 2 sessions during the day or one session in the morning and then daycare in the afternoon. It looks like there is a demand for it which is good and I can still stay at home. Thanks again.

Hi B.,
My daughter attends a pre-school based in home child care and I ABSOLUTELY love it!! When I started looking for a preschool program, I wanted an in-home one because I am not a huge fan of centers. However, it was NOT easy to find!! I think there should be more of them around. I have recommended my daughters daycare to several freinds, but there are never any openings, which is pretty understanding since I think there is a demand for it.
I say go for it!! I feel that at the preschool level, there should be more structure to get kids ready for kindergarten and that doesn't happen when you have all different age levels.
GOOD LUCK!!

I do a preschool program out of my home. (In home child care). I run it as an in home child care, but I am set up with 2 separate playrooms, kitchen and bathroom.
Parents that bring their children to my child care dont need to send them to a preschool once they get older because they learn their colors, letters, numbers, shapes, and the 4 and 5 year olds are reading to write, spell, beginning sounds, etc. I had one of my daycare moms tell me this morning that her 2 daughters did their kindergarten testing on Sat. and they pasted with flying colors. They needed an 18, and got a 25 score.
Doing this business out of your house is wonderful, and you can have a fantastic set up and program that will imspire the children.
For my curriculum I use 1 - 2 - 3 Learn Curriculum. (I also develop and sell it... :) )
Find something that your going to enjoy and that the kids will enjoy. Good luck with your business and if you ever need to ask any questions I'd be happy to help.

Where do you live? I am currently looking for a new child care/preschool for my son. I switched him to where I work 2 months ago after we moved away from his old, which I was very happy with... and now am very unhappy. In the last 2 months he has become aggressive and has a really bad attitude and has stopped doing any type of art (they don't do it as a group... but allow the children to do it when they want to... and he went from always wanting to color, to never when he started there. It has been weeks since he has brought anything home.) I really want something for him that is interactive and fun, not just sitting and watching TV. I have to work and be away from him during the day, so I want him to get the most out of the time I miss out on that he can. Some people tell me it is the parents job to teach them everything, and that daycare should do nothing but feed them and keep them safe... I completely disagree on that. If I could be a SAHM and dedicate all of my time to him, I would in a second. But because I am a single mom and don't have that option - I want him to get the most he can out of the time I don't get to be with him. We live in Farmington and I work in downtown St Paul, so take Hwy 52 to work. His old daycare in Burnsville is pretty far out of the way, but I am considering making that drive because it is worth it. If you are any more convenient, I would be interested in seeing what kind of program you have, and possibly bringing my son there when the time comes. I am having surgery next month, so he won't be starting anywhere until I go back to work in a few months.

I think it is great that you have an idea for a business that would allow you to stay home, too!
As for me, I will only send my kids to a preschool that is accredited with the NAEYC (National Academy of Education for Young Children). I am a high school teacher at a college preparatory school. The research shows that the quality of preschool education is prescient to success in the early grades. Many of the supposed preschool programs out there (New Horizons, Children's World, etc) are really just glorified daycares. In fact, some preschools do more harm than good because of the emphasis they place on academics rather than on creative play. Therefore, I think that if you want to create a preschool that will have enduring value, it would be wise to seek accreditation.
I'm sure you've looked at many different models and will find one that works for you. We chose my daughter's preschool because it has a ratio of 8:1 in a classroom of 16 and her teachers both have MAs in either Early Childhood Education or Child Psychology.
Best of luck to you in this exciting endeavor!

Hi B.,
My daughter goes to an in-home preschool and I love it. Her preschool is located in the basement (which is a walkout) and is completely dedicated to preschool. It looks like a mini child care center. I plan on sending my son there too. I like the fact that it's in home because there is still the feeling like home. My daughter has loved it there too. I'm happy to talk to you more about it if you have any questions. Good Luck! I think there would definitly be a demand for this!
