In Charge

I have not heard of them but a friend of mine's husband does something like that and has a free consultation. He may be able to give her some advice before she jumps into that - He is a good honest man and there are so many people who do the debt thing that are not. His website is www.streamlinemycredit.com and his name is Mike Ayres. His office is located in Frisco/Plano but works mostly in McKinney but can meet to talk to her anywhere. He does credit repair stuff though and I'm not realy sure what In Charge is but he knows more than I about the credit stuff - The best thing about what Mike does is that each customer has a log in screen they go to and can track everything he has done for them.

I know so many people who have been taken advantage of my debt consolidation. We tried one a few years ago and it didn't work out. Most of the complaints I have heard are about how the consolidation company makes the payments to the creditors late or not at all.

Dave Ramsey offers free financial advice and he is on the radio everyday, and he also have a show on the Fox Business channel every night at 7 central. He offers great advise on getting out of debt and being debt free. My husband and I used his tips and we are now debt free (after being in the hole over 70,000)! I truly reccomend him.

I have a friend who did the debt consolidation thing. It sounded good to them, but RUINED their credit. Her parents ended up bailing them out.

I also recommend Dave Ramsey. In fact, he just endorsed and works with the company that I work with. I would love to visit with you. If you're a stay at home mom with 4 kids (I am too!), I know you'll want to educate yourself and see if this is for you too.

I second the recommendation for Dave Ramsey. Check the website (www.daveramsey.com) to find an endorsed local counselor through his program or a Financial Peace University class nearby your friend. My husband and I are going through his class at our church and it has been great.

Financial Peace University. It will change how your friend looks at finances completely. Dave Ramsey is awesome and the course is great because it is humorous, but you learn so much. A lot of churches offer the course, so have your friend check into churches in her area and get registered for a class. My husband and I aren't even in debt, but decided to take it anyway and it is still a huge eye opener. We are on week 4 and we're already very happy with our decision to do it.

I would steer clear of the debt solution companies. Most are a rip off and it's hard to determine which ones are reputable. They can't do anything for your friend that she couldn't do on her own.

Dave Ramsey on the radio (570 AM) between 1 - 4 is totally against debt consolidation companies. They end up being a rip off and go against your credit as a negative. Have your friend get his book, "The Total Money Makeover". It was an inspiration to us. Good luck to your friend.
