In a Quandry About High Schools

The more research I do, the more I'm confused. My husband and I are considering moving, but staying the Dallas area. The reason we are moving is to get into a good school district for our 3 year old daughter for when she starts school. The same year she starts Kindergarten, my 2nd child will be starting high school. My oldest currently goes to Lake Highlands High and it has been a good school for him, but I don't think it would be for my younger son. He is more of a follower and a pleaser and will do something he knows he is not supposed to do in order to get along with the person who is with at the time. Peer pressure really works on him. With that said, I am looking for a high school where he will have a better chance of being influenced by good kids at the same time I want to give my daughter a good chance in elementary school. She is going to be almost 6 when she starts school, and probably like most parents, I believe she is smart.

Does anyone have opinions on JJ Pearce High School or Rowlett High School or experience with Rockwall schools? We currently live in Garland, but my ex-husband lives in the Lake Highlands area and are willing to move what is best for both of these children.

What can I do next?

I think with any school you have that temptation. We live in Rowlett and I have two that go to Sachse HS. I haven't had any issues with either of them........and my son used to be "the follower" until he started HS. Some of that I think was due to a growth in maturity, some of it getting away from some of the kids he used to hang out with.

But i do think no matter where they go, public or private there will be some "bad seeds". But like I said, Sachse has been a good school so far for us.

I went to Rockwall High School and started there my freshman year. I loved it and would love to move back to put my kids in their schools. The kids were a bit rich and liked their status symbols but any school in this area is like that. When I think about where I want my kids to go to school Rockwall is at the top of the list. Unfortunately it is too far from our jobs.

I went to Pearce and also teach in Richardson. I believe Pearce is a great school. But w/ any highschool kids will be tempted and lead a stray. With that being said....I think I too would have a tough time sending my kids to Lake Highlands or berkner and would feel really good about Pearce.

I unfortunately do not know enough about Rockwall and rowlett, but I know they have a good reputation.

I graduated from Rockwall H.S. and my Mom was a teacher there. The parents in Rockwall tend to undermine the school by objecting to homework and discipline for their kids. I'm not a fan but I do have friends who had a good experience.
