Implantation Bleeding or Not?

I started a birth control called seasonique. I took it for about a month and a half and noticed that my hair was falling out tremendously. So I called in for a new birth control perscription. To make a long story short, there was a mix up with the meds and I took something else thinking it was my birth control for about a week. Not to mention I stopped taking my seasonique a week before I got what I thought was my new birth control. After taking care of the mix up, my OB advised me to wait till I started my period before starting the new birth control. Thursday night, I was intimate with my husband. Then last night I went to the restroom and noticed a little blood. So I put in a tampon thinking I started my period. This morning I took it out and there was barely any blood on there so I put in a new one and all day it's been brown stuff coming out. I dont want to be pregnant right now but this is very similar to what I had when I was pregnant with my first son. I had little spotting then brown stuff for 5 days. My second son I didn't have any implanation bleeding. So now Im confused. Is it or is it not? And I am unsure of when to take a test because I had been taking seasonique, and its the pill where you only have four periods a year. So I haven't had a period since I went for my 6 weeks check up. So when do I take a test? Any help would be appreciated!

Just go ahead and take a test. If it's implantation bleeding, a home pregnancy test should probably show a positive.

It sounds like it's just the effect of switching from the drug you thought was your birth control to the one that was your birth control. First off I would have tried to figure out what other effect than your hair falling out is from the first drug your taking. I have had to go on birth control; due to a hormonal imbalance after having my last child was weaned, she was weaned at 2 and she is four now. I had no option; but to go on the birth control. I was having a period every week, I would have my normal seven day period have 3-7 days of not bleeding and then start all over again. I am on loestrin24fe and LOVE IT. The first six months that I was on it, I didn't have a period at all and that is normal for some people, I have been on it for two now and I have a period every two months or so. I have a friend that is on Yaz for the same reason I am and she loves it.

I would call you OB/Gyn office and explain what happened. They can do a blood test that is much more accurate and quicker than a home pregnancy test. Good luck to you.

Dear D.,

There are so many harmful side effects taking oral contraceptives. Many of these are in the "fine" print or not discussed as they should be.
If you live in the Atlanta area, I would recommend Dr. Kathleen Ravielle. ###-###-#### She will take a most thorough look at all the possible bleeding causes and also educate you on how you can avoid pregnancy naturally.
I contracepted for twenty years using various methods and now after using Natural Family Planning my husband and I have the best marriage ever. He is totally involved with the plan and this has opened up communication between us in unbelievable and amazing ways...creating a lasting and healthy relationship. I am avoiding putting harmful chemicals into my body and I am now more in tune with my body then I ever was.
Good luck and God Bless!

I read your post and wanted to offer you a word of encouragement. D.. . . .what a joy to raise children. . .I am sure your hands are full with your two very young little boys. Yet, when it is all said and done it will be your children that will bring the MOST joy, the most memorable moments (good and bad). . .I am sure the thought of another baby may scare you, yet stay focused on what are the things that really matter in life and you my dear as you close your eyes and think ahead, think long term. . . .it will be your family that keeps you laughing, crying, tickeled and at times the highlight of a long day! Wish you many blessings----

Just to ease your mind, maybe you should take an at-home pregnancy test today. The test are very accurate and would at least let you know for sure if you are pregnant or not. Good luck...

I have had implantation bleeding with both my sons and you can't take a pregnancy test yet...at least not a home one. With my first son I just thought it was weird spotting, but figured it out later. with my second son, I took a home 3 home tests (over the week following the bleeding) and they all came up negative, I had to wait until around the time that I would normally have a period, about a week or two later and then it finally showed positive. I never had any days of brown, though, mine were a few days of bright red. I was told (when I had a miscarriage) that when it is brown that your body is getting rid of old cells, which I don't think would happen would happen with implantaion. When you are switching around birth controls your body needs time to 'reset' itself, so if I had to guess I would say that it is just spotting.

It's quite likely just a light period, from changing BC and such. However to be sure you can take a preg. test in about 2 weeks. Much earlier and even if it tests neg you'll be wondering if it was accurate yet. In the future, back up with condoms when you're changing! :) Better safe than pregnant when you're already dealing with a 4 month old!
Good Luck!

A normal birth control pack is three weeks of active pills and one week of inactive pills. The idea is that you take the three weeks of active pills to prevent ovulation and have the week of inactive pills to have your period. With Seasonique, you take active pills all 28 day of the month until your third month when you allow your body to get it's period. So, you were on those anti-ovulation pills for a month and half and then two weeks of no birth control? I guess it's unlikely that you ovulated in that time but not impossible. If you're having similar stuff from a previous pregnancy -- so you're suspecting you may be pregnant now... I'd take a test in a week or so. For advice on when to start your next pack, I'd stop by your pharmacy or call your doctor. Good luck!

I'm not a fan of these birth controls that only allow your body to menstruate four times a year. You body is meant to shed the lining in the uterus every 30 days or so. If your body naturally does it on a different cycle that's one thing, but manipulating it is another. It's unfair that docs are suggesting/pushing these types of birth controls and there have been more than a few reports of women having blood clots that have caused death in otherwise healthy women. I would seek out an older, more traditional birth control and maybe go back to your doc to check on the possibility of you being pregnant.
