This is something you should buy off o Craigslist. All sorts of people sell theirs. Buy it at a Craigslist price then sell it later on Craigslist at the same price.
My 11 year old DD has a HUGE room. I keep seeing small air hockey tables on Craigslist and I was thinking about getting one for her. Do you have one? Would it be a waste of money or totally worth it? She loves air hockey and I'll be keeping a 9 year old this summer so I thought they'd like to play together, but I don't want to spend the money if it's not worth it. Any thoughts?
Thanks guys! I got one off of craigslist for $30 and the kids love it! I'm sure the novelty will wear off, but for $30, hey, you can't beat it! :)

We got a 7ft air hockey table as the kids big Christmas gift in 2010. They still play it often enough for us to keep it. I also think as they get older (they are almost 9, 7, and 5) their friends will want to come over and use it. We have a finished basement and we keep it there, along with the rest of their toys. We want to add a fooseball table next! A nice one though, so we'll go back to Craigslist too.
I think as long as the things are used, they are worth it. If they go a month or more without playing it, it's no big for me. When they want it, they have it :).
So if you can get one for cheap (we paid $250 for ours) then I say go for it!
We were given ours.
It now sits unused in the garage. Makes a great table to set things on while I am putting stuff away...
It got some use right after we were given it....about a week or so...
Happy we found this out free.....They love(d)playing air hockey when we are out somewhere....Apparently just not enough to do it often or ever at home.
I know three families that bought air hockey tables. They got the full sized kind. They LOVED them for the first three months or so, played all the time. Next few months, they still liked their tables and enjoyed them periodically. Then it started to get used less and less. And finally they turned into catch alls. All three families sold theirs before they had it a year.
I'm giving ours to Goodwill this weekend. The kids were all excited about it at first and then lost interest. Now its just been taking up room so I'm getting rid of it. If she ends up loving it, when the 9 yo is gone, are you guys going to want to be bugged about playing with her all the time? LOL! Good luck!
I bought a tabletop one from Land of Nod for 50% off and gave it to my 5-year old for Christmas. He plays only very occasionally but I noticed when a 7-year old came over for a playdate the older boy was really into it. It only cost around $40 and I figure as my son and his friends get older they will play it more frequently. I don't think I would spend more than $50 for one, though.
The one I bought works quite well. Some people complained online about the legs falling off, but I haven't personally had a problem with that.
my kids play with theirs maybe 4 times a month. otherwise it just sits in our basement looking nice.
Sounds like the type of thing that loses it's appeal pretty quickly, but since you watch kids at home, you will always have someone willing to play with it, I'm sure!
