I have a completely irrational fear of the dentist. My new year's resolution is to go to the dentist. The thought of going to the dentist causes me anxiety. I have been to a dentist before and I've had good and bad experiences, but it's the bad ones that stick with me. Can anyone recommend a dentist that really specialized in dental anxiety? Or can you recommend a dentist that you abolultely love. I live in the south suburbs. Thanks for your help!!

What can I do next?

I have been going to the same dentist for 20 years. Dr. Christopher Forte, in Brookfield, is very mild mannered, professional, thorough, newly remodeled awesome waiting room - like sitting in a comfortable family room. He is also a dad to two sons (who are teens by now. I have always been amazed at how he gives pain-free novacaine shots (sorry!) My children like him a lot too, and have been going since they were babies (I have a teen and a tween). They also have t.v.'s positioned in front of every chair. Minimal waiting in his waiting room - he does not over book!

The best thing that you can do for yourself is prepare. I have a friend like you and I accompanied her to her Dentist. She was also given Valium to calm her nerves. Talk to the dentist, in advance, to let them know that you have this fear so that they can help you.

Good Article.

It is so important to go to a dentist - the same plaque that builds on your teeth - builds on your arteries. If you don't take care of your teeth, you will have greater health problems.

Best of luck to you.

O'Donnel dental in Oak Forest (149th & Cicero) They are very gental. Dr. Joe is a little bit of an oddball, but I think he acts that way on purpose to make his clients more relaxed. Sorry I don't have the number off hand, but they're in the phone book

Have TERRIBLE family hx of dental problems and had been to a lot of 'jerk' dentist. Swore them all off and didn't go for 10 years. You can imagine my anxiety thinking of all the problems going on by not going to he dentist. I gave in and went to Dr. Michael Kirsch in Orland Park ###-###-####. He is so cool and talks to me at each appointment. Didn't give me any 'lip' about not going for 10 years and talks me through each procedure. We now live about an hour away and I WILL NOT go to another one. He has brought back my trust in this profession!

Dr. Elizabeth Pryor ###-###-####)in Hyde Park is great. I've been going to her for the past 7 years and I had my husband start going to her as well. (He hadn't been to the dentist in years when we first met). A co-worker of mine who has had bad experiences with dentists in the past also uses her and loves her too.
