Barnes & Noble is good for kids. There's usually a Starbucks in there, and then the children's area has a play area with a train table and other things to play with.

I like the local Newtown book store as they have a little alcove set up with the children's books and chairs(for the moms) to sit in. D. P.

I'm a SAHM of a 5 1/2 year old boy.

You should check out www.norristownmom.com for ideas. It's a free site by a local mom with all kinds of family resources, like indoor play areas.

This is an indoor athletic field. They do a program Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9 - 11:30 for little ones under 5. They have a variety of toys and games set up and it is just $5. It is brand new so all of the toys and items are in excellent condition!

Don't know where you are exactly, but our favorites are:

- the zoo (yes, the zoo!). Members only treehouse is great for crawlers and empty on rainy days. I also let our guys (twin 17 mo old boys) crawl/walk around in the primate house.

- Smith Playhouse in Fairmount Park... especially the second floor (which is closed for a daycare on Tuesday and Thursday mornings).

- The Penn Bookstore children's section at 36th and Walnut. No train table, but they do have a table and chairs, a big selection of board books and stuffed animals. And I think it's good training for taking care of books, putting things back and saying "bye-bye" to books we don't buy.

- My final fallback is the grocery store. Not good for crawling, of course, but it is someplace that's not home with other things and people to look at for a few minutes.

Good luck!
