I'm Having the Worst Period of My Life!

Ok, so this may be graphic, but I need help. Just up front, while I'm doing this I'm waiting for the nurse to get in at my dr.'s office so that I can see if they want me to come in, I know I need to call. I guess I'm just looking for anyone that has any ideas on what I could be expecting. My periods were always regular until about 2 years ago, which was about 6 months after we started trying for #3. Then I stopped ovulating, so I started Clomid, which did absolutely nothing. I took my last round of Clomid in April and then had no period until August. I am sure I wasn't pregnant. When I started in August, everything started out normal, for the first week, then the second week it got heavy. I called the dr and they said this was normal after going so long without a period. After 3 weeks and the the bleeding so heavy that I couldn't leave the house for more than an hour, the dr put me on birth control pills. It worked. By the next day the bleeding was back to normal and by the end of the second it had stopped altogether. Great! 10 days later it started again and I haven't missed any pills. Today is the 4th day and when I woke up this morning, I knew I had to go right to the bathroom to get everything changed, but half way to the bathroom, I had blood running down my leg and it had soaked through my pjs. I don't know how much more of this I can stand.
I now have an appointment for Thursday to "make a plan". I would still love any advise if there's anything specific I should be looking for or talking about or any ideas until then. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

the first thing that came to my mind was that it sounded like perimenopause..but youre still young. My mom started getting the irregular periods, then all of a sudden she would go weeks bleeding and she said the same thing, couldnt leave the house, had to wear tampons and pads together caus eshe would still leak. perimenopause is all the symptoms that lead up to menopause. She ended up having to have a hysterectomy. I would make an appointment to go in asap. I have irregular periods cause from Polycystic ovarian syndrome/disease and i sometimes go 2-3 monthes between periods and ive never had the bleeding last more that 5-6 days..and its not overly heavy, sometimes its a light period other times a little heavy but not alarming.

red raspberry leaf tea is the herbal remedy related to bleeding.

you can get it at wild oats along with instructions for how to make it. Mix it with some mint leaves if you want. If you happen to have red raspberry bushes, you can chew/suck on the leaves instead of making the tea if you prefer. (sometimes you don't feel like waiting 10 minutes for the tea)

Hi Laura,

My mother had bleeding similar to what you are describing and ended up quite weak, because she'd lost so much blood. I don't want to scare you, but my mom ended up having a hysterectomy. All of the tests that they ran on her and the ultra sounds and everything came back normal. But when they final did the hysterectomy, they found that her uterus had completely prolapsed. In other words, it turned completely inside out. The test came back normal, because apparently they usually figure out what is going on before it is completely prolasped.
Since you mentioned that you were trying for #3, I hope this isn't your outcome, but you might get yourself and your husband prepared for this scenario.

You could try some bladder control alternatives, like depends, for keeping your clothing and bedding cleaner. They also have absorption pads that you can put in your chair or underneath you in bed. I've found them at Walgreens and use them for my daughter who wets at night.

Kindest Regards,
TRUDI

I have been through similar periods. I had one in which I was at the dr.'s office and they didn't actually believe it was as bad as it was. It felt awful to not be believed. I also didn't like the idea of being on birth control. They also did some homemone treatment, which made me feel terrible. I did the birth control for a while to get things "under control" but then quite because I didn't like them. Then, every three months I would have to take hormones to start my period. And every time I was terrified I would go through another one of "those" periods. Well, 3 years later I was STILL having issues - and avoiding doing much about it because I didn't like the answers the dr. was giving me. I finally decided to try a naturopath. She put me on a plant-derived estrogen, so no bad side-effects that come with the "traditional" estrogen replacement. It took exactly one month for my periods to be corrected. After years of having difficulties, I cried because it was so easy.
I don't believe that what worked for me will necessarily work for anyone else. What I WOULD suggest is trying to find other answers. I think that the various kinds of medicine (western, eastern, naturopath, etc.) all have a place in overall health. Maybe just getting another opinion from another source might help to find the best solution for you.
If you are interested, I went to Dr. Rachel Burnett from Utah Natural Medicine. Both she and her husband are naturopaths. I have only seen her, but sent friends to their office and they have raved about their experience with the Mr. Dr.
And until you get this worked out, my heart goes out to you. Best of luck & I hope it gets taken care of soon!

Please talk to the doctor about your uterus falling out. Meaning your muscles are no longer holding it in. I had no idea that something like that could happen. I went through a year of what you just described and finally went in thinking he could give me a pill. I couldn't beleive what he was telling me. There are options if you are still wanting kids. I know how hard this is for you. I am so sorry you are going through it. Take all the information your doctor gives you and make and informed decision. The longer you wait the worse it will get. Please go in as soon as possible. The faster they can catch the problem the better off you will be.

Good luck!
