I'm a Wanted Woman... and Not in a Good Way!

If you want all the details, email me and I will tell you.. but the short of it is I have several warrants for my arrest in different cities (Traffic violations) dating back almost 10 years and totaling several thousand dollars, which I do not have. I am considering turning myself in and having my mom care for my kids while I "sit it out". But I have been urged by my family to look for other options. So are there other options? Money is very tight.. my husband is disabled, and I'm waiting for the kids to start school full time in september to find a full time job, but even then, it will be months before I can clear everthing up. I just want to take care of it and start over. I would hope that the courts would dismiss the charges with time served, or something like that, but would be prepared to stay the whole time. I have never been arrested and would also worry about any criminal record that would follow me. Also, my parents want me to ask my MIL for the money, which she would have, but she has already helped us out GREATLY since my husband's disability, and I would feel bad asking for more money. I also feel that I need to take care of this on my own. I don't feel it's right to ask her for more when she has done so much. (It would be pocket change for her, but that should not matter). Any advice from someone who has been there.

p.s. Legal aid will not help me since they take more serios cases like divorce, forclosures, immigration. They do not take traffic of criminal cases... :(

What can I do next?

you really need a lawyer to work out a resolution because it involves several different jurisdictions. Different jurisdictions would not necessarily accept time served in another jurisdiction.

Ask about doing community restitution! Many cities offer it but don't advertise. You get "paid" a dollar amount for hours worked in the community over a specified time period. They take the amount off your fines. You can work some or all the balance off. It will however be recorded as guilty plea, same as if you sat it out. Good luck:)

contact Legal Services of North Texas and see what you need to do to get a free attorney assigned to you to help you negotiate these issues. It's possible that you could appear in court, explain your circumstances, and get some kind of workable solution to these issues.
