Deseret Industries has nice twin size beds that are wood, they also sell new mattresses. Just another option that is low-cost.
Ok so my son (17months) has a while till he's will sleep in a toddler bed, but being a single mom, I need all the time I can get to save up for furniture. So I am thinking I like the IKEA LEKSVIK bed that starts out toddler size and then grows with the child. I like the idea of the bed. . . But not sure on the quality. I have seen the bed in person, and it looked meh. Nothing to be thrilled about. How was hit held up for you? How easy is it to add length to the bed? After age 6 or 7 is it worth it since it's soo low to the ground?
Thanks! I've purchased furniture there before, and I like what I've gotten. But you know some furniture just feels cheaper than some. This one felt that way. I could also be thinking of a different one though. . . so I'm just not sure.
http ://www. ikea. com/us/en/catalog/product s/S39847516 Please don't pull my question!! I put spaces in the address so hopefully it wont see it as a address. This is the one I'm thinking about. I really like that metal one, but I feel it's to girly for my son. I love iron and the spirals though! If I had a girl, she would have that one!

Let me start off by saying.....I love Ikea. =)
I have this one...but in white

It's very sturdy, and has held up well so far (for a year). She jumps on it, plays on it, flips on it. I was surprised at how heavy it was, and the construction of it is great. It was super easy to put together too. Everyone who has seen it loves it.
It's easy to add the length, you just use the allen wrench that came with it and slide it out to the second notch (the third one makes the bed its longest). We thought about how low it is, but we are just going to purchase bed risers...we are hoping to have it till she's 10, then purchase her a "grown up" bed.
Good Luck with your purchase.
ADDED: I wanted to be more specific on how it's put together (at least my model). It slides into itself to there are no extra parts except the tool that put it together, and thats what you need to make it longer. The slats (teh wood under the bed) on the first setting (the smallest) are right next to each other, as you slide it out to make it longer they are spaced apart. The mattress you buy that coordinates with it comes in three pieces: 1 large piece and 2 smaller ones. When you go from smallest size to medium you just add one of the smaller pieces of the mattress, then the third when you go to the longest setting. Hope that helps a little bit more.
added again....sorry I don't know about that one. I did see a grown man laying down on it the last time I went, so atleast it heald his weight. It looks like the same slide design though. Next time you go lift up the mattress to get a better look. Good Luck!
I'm not sure about the specific bed you're referring to, but I've gotten quite a bit of furniture and other items from IKEA over the years and I've never had any issue with the quality. Most of their stuff is very modern, no frills. Nearly everything has to be assembled by you at home, and it can be quite heavy to carry the parts. But, all things considered I haven't had any problems. My son's entire room came from IKEA, and so far it's working out great.
I think, if you do go for this bed, make sure that you have all the parts you will need to convert the bed later on, in case you have trouble finding them down the road when you need them (say if they discontinue that bed). If it ends up being too low to the ground, they sell those risers that you can put underneath the legs of the bed to give extra room underneath, and that would solve that problem.
I do not have first hand experience on this be but I do know that I never had luck with the toddler bed idea. I tried it on two of my four kids and found that it was easier, more flexible and cost effective to convert them to their big kid bed from the beginning. You have more choices of beds, you only buy once, you can get bumpers if you need, you only have to transition them to one bed, you have one set of sheets, etc. I highly recommend you go out and spend your money on the one good bed you will want to keep for your son from here on out. It saves a lot of hassle.
Good luck!
I had a toddler bed from IKEA and was very happy with it- we used it for 2 years. (not the model your referring to) I wish I still had an IKEA close by I love their stuff- very affordable!
Honestly I went from a crib DIRECTLY into a twin bed with a side railing. I did that because I didn't want to have to buy a toddler bed then switch beds again (more money) since you are going to have to buy a twin bed eventually anyway (they cant stay in toddler beds long), I'd skip that step and save money in the long run. If you are concerned about the baby falling out of the bed, you can just put the mattress on the ground, but between the railing and the bed being against the wall, i found my solution worked great. Plus my toddler feels like she's a big girl and we don't have to fight about getting a different bed later.
Completely agree with Tiffany W. We never did the toddler bed but went straight to a full-size big-girl bed that way we didn't have to go buy furniture, mattress and linen all over again. If you have the space to allow for a big-boy bed, IMO - skip the toddler bed and go with furniture that he will grow into. Good luck.
Double check your crib and see if it can be used as a toddler bed first! I cannot comment of the Levsvik bed, other than to say that I like most things I have seen from ikea...
If you can use your crib as a toddler bed, essentially all you do is take off the front end of the crib and use the same mattress. Don't spend the money on a toddler bed that will only be used for a couple years unless you really HAVE to.
Like others have said, you could get a twin size bed... and then just get simple toddler bed rails to help prevent falls... of course to do that you'll want to wait till he has really mastered getting on and off of adult furniture safely.
If you really want a toddler bed, see if you can find a used one! (they are usually only used for a few years and then stuck in storage) you could put out a request on your local "freecycle.org" site and see if someone responds. OR call up local thrift stores or consignment stores and see if they could call you if one comes in- There is a good chance you could pick up a really nice one for almost nothing that way!
Good Luck!
