If You Work in Daycare and Have Children in Daycare...

Hi mama-

Years ago I was the director of a kindercare...

My first child was free. I paid fifty percent for my second...and when I had my third child, I resigned. They would have wanted 100% tuition for my third kiddo...and frankly, on the salary they paid at the time, it really wasn't worth it.

I don't pay myself for my kids to be in my home daycare, since they don't count towards my numbers. In AZ, you can have up to 4 kids not for profit over and above the 10 child maximum.

I paid 50% of the tuition when I worked at daycares and my son attended.

I've purchased cowboy boots for my boys (Ft. Worth Stockyard Show & Rodeo is coming up!) at these places....

1. Walmart - not leather, but had a cool camo look to them, and looked more like cowboy boots than rainboots (this was last year. this year they are looking more like rain boots)
2. Once Upon A Chile - children's consignment - definintely hit or miss, but you can find real leather cowboy boots that are barely worn

I worked in a center - a small center (not "corporate" in my eyes-like kindercare, but still GROUP care) and I paid HALF of the regular tuition other parents were charged. Regular tuition for infants (aka 0-2) was $200/week and I paid $100.

I now babysit kids in my home, unlicensed, so my DS doesn't "count" towards my ratio (and not sure how that works if he WOULD count if I WAS licensed?) but I do not pay myself to care for him. He is my son. Caring for him myself was the reason I stopped working full time (kindergarten teacher) and decided to stay home...The "pay" I get does not come in the form of money :-)
