If You Suffer from Bad Anxiety or Panic Attacks...

... do you hallucinate?

Apparently that's a very common side effect, having hallucinations. One of my (weird) anxiety triggers is shopping, even if it's something as simple as going to the grocery store. Sometimes, on a bad trip, as I'm in my car trying to chill out and calm myself, it really, really looks like EVERY car in the parking lot is moving at once... I'm completely unable to drive, because every time I think it's safe to go, it appears that every single (parked) car is moving at the same time. Awful... thankfully far and few between.

Another hallucination is I see 'things' move, like out of the corner of my eye, but there's really nothing there (this one may be caused by too much oxygen flowing through my blood when I get to hyperventilating).

What are your hallucinations?

Just wondering... these haven't happened in ages, I was going through some old paperwork and found some medical literature about it, and got to thinking, that's all :)

I don't hallucinate. I have seen "shadow monkeys" when I haven't gotten enough sleep. Shadow Monkeys are those little things you see out of the corner of your eyes

My anxiety attacks are more of the hyperventilating type, then I sit in the car and cry and shake and go home and take a nap. My triggers are getting lost driving at night and time/bills stress.. I start thinking about due dates and deadlines and committments and panicking about how I'm going to get it all done and then I sometimes go into full on anxiety attack. FUn stuff makes me feel looney .

I don't hallucinate when I'm anxious, but I did see moving shadows/flitting ghosts like Tracy K. when I was pregnant. I've just started seeing them again.

When I first read "Do you hallucinate?" I thought to myself "no", but after you explain I can relate to a lot of that. I get pretty jumpy too.

I don't have anxiety issues, at least I don't think I do.... :)

There are times when I catch movement out of the corner of my eye(s) turn to look and there is nothing there.

If you are having hallucinations after a panic attack - ask the doctor if there is something that you can do - not a medicine to take cause we know you don't like popping pills! :) to help calm down after an anxiety attack....like breathing exercises, etc.

No.

I get really light headed. I could see how one would though...my breathing gets messed up. Which can make me dizzy and sometimes question WHAT I am seeing....Or the tunnel vision the light headed feeling can give you.

Thankfully it does not happen often.

I do know what you mean. I have horrible night driving problems, with panic attacks. Last night, I had to pull over. This was with taking 1 1/2 mg. of ativan. I don't know what I'm going to do. I see my dr. next week.

I've seen things from the corners of my eyes before. I also become hyper aware of everything. Hate this.

No. Mostly I get very sweaty palms and I become hyper aware. My heart beats really fast and I feel like I just downed quadruple shot of espresso. My triggers are driving- although I have improved sooo much! I used to have a hard time on the freeway and now it is not an issue unless the kids are all being loud and it is rush hour, that is when I turn into a mega beast because I get very stressed. I am slowly getting better with driving downtown, but there are so many one-way streets and trains and pedestrians, so I get a bit panicky. Night driving sets me off too. Or night driving in a snow storm, yikes! I have a hard time with heights, too. I hate driving on tall hills or up the mountain.
I used to hyperventilate and or cry when I had a panic attack, but that has not happened in about 10 years. But I DO have sweaty palms just typing this since I am thinking of all the driving situations that stress me out!!!
