If I Have an Abscess Tooth Can It Affect My Child If Im Breast Feeding?

I have had abscess 2 months after c section and I was breast feeding. My dentist prescribed antibiotics for the infection and I was okay to breast feed while on antibiotic. I realized that my regular vitamins do not have calcium. I started to take calcium with vitamin D that helped me a lot with teeth and gums. How far along you from section? Did you speak about this with dentist/ dentist office?

Your dentist won't see you until c section is healed!.Really? You need to be on antibiotics. An abess is an infection that can spread to other parts of your body like your heart. If not treated you can lose your tooth. The infection can involve other teeth. It could sap your energy. If dentist hasn't seen you, how do you know it's an abcess? Did you tell him you wouldn't take antibiotics because you're nursing. Did he say that not taking antibiotics would be OK, or did he say you're taking a risk and it's your decision?

I don't follow why the C-section has to be healed. How much longer till it's healed completely? Aren't you in pain?

I had infection after my last baby, an it was from my c-section but spread. So I was put on antibiotics. Throughout (before I knew how bad it was) and during the antibiotics, I was encouraged to breastfeed - by my doctors.

I would talk to your doctor if you have concerns about the breastfeeding. As for the tooth, I'd see someone else - unless there's another reason not mentioned here. Why live with the pain and possible spreading of infection?

If your dentist will not see you at all, I would find another dentist. If he doesn't want to treat it until your healed, then he should at least give antibiotics. I had an infection when I was pregnant with my oldest while pregnant. Because I was high risk, the most they would do was a cleaning. I did get antibiotics though until after they were born-and I finished post natal care since I had a c at the time.

You need to see your Dr. An abscess is not something to take lightly. Any knife toon in your mouth can turn horribly wrong if you don't address it asap.

You need to be on RX. I'd speak with my Dr and dentist to get this under control before things get worse.

Please do not listen to this dentist. They should have you on very very good antibiotics. A little 9 year old boy was lost a few years ago due to an abscessed tooth.

They are very dangerous. The infection is very close to the brain and if it gets in your blood in the slightest amount it can infect your brain and you'll be lost too. If it gets in your blood and goes down instead of up you can end up with that infection in your heart, again, you'd be gone.

It doesn't matter if you're healing from a C-section or breastfeeding. If this abscess is bad enough they need to have you on super antibiotics so you don't die, okay? So you stay alive to take care of your child. IF the antibiotics require you to stop nursing your child then you do that so you don't risk not being there for them at all their entire life.

Call your OB/GYN and ask for antibiotics. You can't see the dentist for WORK on the tooth until the infection is gone. That's why you should have been given the antibiotics when you called your dentist.

I've never heard of a dentist withholding treatment. Find a new dentist.

I'm not familiar with the specifics but the kellymom website is an excellent and thorough resource for breastfeeding. Also call your local la leche league for breastfeeding advice (24/7) (877-4 laleche).

My daughter got an abscess tooth after her wisdom teeth were pulled. She ended up in the hospital for a week. She had to have surgery with 2 Dr's and they found the infection very close to her heart.

Your dentist doesn't make any sense, this isn't something to play around with. Find a new dentist.

I had an abscess when my oldest child was 4 months and I was breastfeeding him. I was given antibiotics but my son was allergic to them. I pumped and dumped while I was on them and I had my tooth worked on as soon as the infection was gone. I would call the dentist and say it's either antibiotics or I am finding another dentist! Unfreakingbelievable.
