When my kids want to scream they go to their rooms for a nice long time out alone. If they want to throw a tantrum they an do it away from the rest of us.
I need to vent!
I love my middle man(who is four). But, he has developed this scream that is absolutely blood curdling! and when he does it, I want to scream and cry myself. not only is it over the top. It makes nails on a chalk board, sound like, jazz and wine on a warm Saturday evening!
How can I get him not to do this. I have tried time out. He does it for everything now. Brother sitting to close to him, brother takes something form him, he thinks he is not getting a fair share. It is just about the only thing coming outta his mouth! How do you get them to not do it...without taping their little mouths shut? I wouldnt really do this! I am always feeling desperate with this today because it is horrible outside! So, I cant send him out back to play...where I cant hear him make the noise!
Comfort me, with annoying noises your Dear Kiddo has made, that you thought you would loose it over!
Shane B. that is a wonderful idea. He is my musical monkey man! so loud opera may just drive him to stop!! Good idea..we are downloading some to the ipod now!!!
Jane M...I may be doing that after we finish dinner! I will play the opera out the back deck! I am not kidding. My neighbors will understand. they have all heard the scream.
Cheers to you Spidermonkey!! This is why we need each other on this site!! for sanity sake!!

I told my kids if they were going to scream like that, somebody better be dead or bleeding.
If they thought screaming was so much fun, they could go in their rooms, all by themselves with the door closed because no one else wanted to hear it.
Maybe get a CD of Madame Butterfly or La Traviata and play it. He'll hate opera and quit screaming or appreciate it and at least add some inflection to his vocals.
It's worth a try.
My daughter when she was about 3 went through a phase of fake crying. The really annoying kind. I looked at her one day and I started doing it. It made her mad. She didn't like it and quit.
I'm sure he'll stop eventually, but I'd get creative in hopes of it happening sooner.
Best wishes.
I am a singer- studied opera, classical, and jazz. I just sing some arias with long sustained high notes. Works for crying infants too. They both stop and look at me like I'm crazy. Then, my 4 year old always wants me to do it again. LOL
Unless it was thundering and lightning, I'd send him out. When my kids throw rotten tantrums, I say "People who speak to me like that are not allowed in the house. If Daddy talked to me like that, he'd get sent away too. Out you go." Normally it only takes a couple of times outside in the cold or wet before they knock it off. Good luck.
Congratulate him on finding his voice and make a more pleasing sound for him to mimic and get him to do that instead giving him a Bigger praise for the more pleasing sound.
It will pass.
Phases.
When my son was 3... he did that too.
Just for 'fun.'
We gave him no attention for it. Distracted him. Redirected him.
My daughter does the same thing! We r at mcdonalds and I swear I hear her over all these heathens! I don't know how to fix it but you are not alone! Let's invest in ear plugs and have that glass of wine!
same age. same scream.
we say what yelling is.
and screaming is if someone is hurt or someone is in trouble.
and yelling is for outside.
my son used to make this annoying noise when we were reading. i'd tickle him. when that wouldn't work i licked his face. he laughed and thought it was gross so he stopped. LOL
My 9 year old daughter has a cry that is literally one of the worst sounds in the world to my ear. There have been times where she is hurt and I have to grit my teeth to help her because the sound is so awful. I don't knOw how to make him stop, but I feel your pain.
Our youngest is such a whiner, I CAN'T TAKE IT! There are seriously days where I feel like I am going to flip my sh!t because he just won't stop. I feel your pain mama!
Vinegar. Every time my daughter did the same thing I would put vinegar in her mouth so she associated the thing I didn't like coming out of her mouth with a bad taste. I found a little pocket sized baby medicine bottle that had an dropper dispenser & carried it around.
