Ideas to Help My Little One Sleep Better at Night

My son is 8 months old, at 2 months he began sleeping through the night but at around 6 months he started waking up for up to 2 hour "intermissions" as we like to call them. He started the rocking on all fours and is now crawling and pulling up on everything. It seems that since he has gotten more mobile he is not sleeping as well. Also, he has yet to cut any teeth - I swear we think he has been teething for the last 4 months!! So many things it could be and I feel like we have tried everything. Any suggestions?? I know he is tired and needs better rest. I give him a 7oz. bottle before bed - is this enough to last an active 8 month old for 11 hours? Even when I have given him 8oz. he wakes up. He eats very well during the day - he weighs 22lbs, so I feel like he is getting enough nurishment. Ok, I'm rambling - any suggestions would be great!! We are desperate.

What can I do next?

Suggestions will have to depend on how he naps during the day. I would make sure he is not napping too much during the day. Also, if he never learned to fall asleep on his own, you might have that issue when he wakes up and simply can't fall asleep on his own. I know my little one was sleeping well through the night, and then around 6 months started waking up at night. Since we had never taught her how to fall asleep on her own, she needed us to help her in the middle of the night when she would wake up. At that point, we did the Ferber method to help her learn. No lie, the first two nights were VERY rough, but ever since then, she has slept great at night!

Love you and your sweet baby boy!!!!
I don't think its a problem with not enough food for the night, at this point the Dr told me that about Zeke. although it could be a variety of things.. too cold, gas, teething, restlessness. What I did was focus very specifically for a week in all those areas to make sure that he was comfortable... and i'm not sure what fixed him but probably a combination of a few things and last night he slept 10 hrs ;)
I'll be praying for you all.

I don't know how you feel about it, but I bet you letting him sleep with you woukd make a world of difference. You might want to at least try it. It definately worked for us!
Good Luck!

Well, this isn't advice, but I wanted to let you know, we're in exactly the same boat over here. We have a six month old (almost 7 months) who was sleeping great through the night and then about four weeks ago started waking up a couple of times every night.
I was hoping our guy would start sleeping more when he started solid food, but it actually seems to be getting worse. I'm eager to hear what advice others give you.

Hi J.,
Try giving your little man some cereal at night before bed. That really helps me with my little girl who is about the same age. She is teething too and we get the Hylan's teething tablets and give them to her at night as well. They are homeopathic and we have never had any ill effects with any of the three kids on those.

As far as waking up at night, make sure you keep him in bed with very low light. Do not get up to entertain him and play and he should go back to sleep after a few days of this and he changes his time clock....

My husband has what we call "stimulating Daddy time" at night with the baby. He tickles her and plays with her for about 10 minutes right before bed and she sleeps hard after that.... Most people think it riles them up, but I have found that it works great to wear the kids out... Hope this helps! Sweet dreams.
