Ideas to Get Red Crayon Out of Beige Carpet

Help! My daughter (23 months) took a red crayon and scribbled on six of our steps in our foyer. We have tanish/beige carpet and I need advice on how to get it out. I have used Woolite Oxy Deep and it took a lot of it off...but I still have a pinkish tint in the carpet. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I don't want to go out and buy another product and I'd like to get it done today. Thanks in advance!

One way it worked for me was to put a damp wash cloth on top and iron the washcloth using a steam iron. Once finished picking up the wax, prepare Oxy Clean using very hot water and a clean wash cloth to remove the dye.

A nice rug to lay on top, works too!

Try goo gone. My son colored on my husbands favorite dress shirt and this worked. squite goo gone on crayon and rub in. Wash with dish soap then hot water. The other option is to try the iron like someone else suggested but I find using a paper bag like a grocery or lunch bag soaks up the wax better. This works great for spilled candle wax too! Hope this helps!

PLEASE watch using cleaners on your carpets! My husband and I just sold our carpet cleaning business, so I know of which I speak :) Most of the spotters recommended here are pure soap. There is NO WAY the average household can have the means to get all of that soap out of your carpet! It may temporarily take out a "stain" but the soap residue will collect ALL of the dirt and dust in your house right there - and you'll break out that wonder cleaner again to "clean" - and the cycle continues... With the crayon: go to the Dollar store and buy a bunch of cheap WHITE towels. Using a warm iron, lay the towel between the iron and the carpet. PRESS the iron - don't rub it around. If you used a colored towel, the color might transfer, and that would be BAD. That should do it. For the moms with blood in their carpets: blot with hydrogen peroxide. Blotting is the key to spot removal - DON'T RUB! Nail polish? Use NON-ACETONE nail polish remover. In fact, if you still see a red residue from your red crayon but can see no evidence of wax, you might try the nail polish remover for the color. If you use an acetone-based nail polish remover, you'll melt your carpet - just like it melts acrylic nails.

Good luck!

I don't know myself if this works, but I read a couple days ago on here that someone was asking how to get crayon out of cloth car inerior seats. The lady wrote back saying she tried two things and they worked so maybe you could try these. She said you are to iron it to get the clumps out. ( I assume you would have to put a thin towel or something between it and the iron) The second thing she did after getting most of it out was use WD-40 and the remainder came up. I had never heard of it but she said it worked. Let me know if you try it and if it works or not. I am curious.

I don't know if this will work or not. But you could try placing a thin cloth (like an old pillowcase) over the stain and carefully ironing it. Make sure your carpet can handle the heat by testing in an unseen area first. The crayon should melt and transfer to the cloth. Work from the outside in to avoid making the stain even bigger.

Try hydrogen peroxide. It usually takes almost any type of stain out of carpet, and it's very inexpensive. (Not sure I got the spelling right).

hi.. havent actually ever tried, but since crayons are wax, i believe your best option is to get an old white (junk) towel, place a corner over a pink spot and use an iron over it to heat the spot. just a firm press (in place, dont move the towel around) for (30-60 sec?) will help transfer some wax to the towel. then you are likely to need to pick up the towel and place a clean spot over the stain, and repeat several times the iron/blot maneuver to absorb as much as possible. use a clean part of the cloth/towel each round on each stain to pick up the wax. when you cant get any more pink on the white towel, i hope there isnt any more on the carpet either... good luck! :)

I've heard of putting an old towel or the spot and ironing. I think the crayon is supposed to transfer to the towel.

This may sound crazy but it works. I use soap scum remover on my carpet for stains. My 4 yr. old took blue crayon to our carpet and it is tan in color. I squirt some soap scum remover on it let it sit for a few minutes and then take a dry rag to it. It took the crayon right out. The brand I use is an off brand called everyday living soap scum remover. It took out a kool-aid stain too. Give it a shot and see how it works.

Spot Shot works very well for stains that other products will not remove. You can buy it at SuperK, Walmart.

For candle wax I have used an iron on low with a paper bag. It draws it right up on the paper bag. It works! Will probably work for waxy crayon to. For anything else we use Spot Shot. This stuff is amazing and will get almost anything out just by spraying it, cola, chocolate, blood, etc. We get it at Home Depot but I'm sure other places have it too. We buy it in bulk. I have a 3 and 4 year old and white carpets. No stains! They try to be careful but aren't always graceful. LOL

Is it the residue of pink more wax-like or just pink???
There are 3 things I try when my commercial stain products don't work.

1. Goo Gone
2. Peroxide
3. Dawn dishsoap-more for greasy things but you'd be surprised how much it does.

I guess if all else fails, google it?

Good luck, let me know how it turns out!

My son cut his finger pretty badly the other day and it bled on the couch and the carpet. Our carpet is a dark beige and our couch is sandstone in color. I was out of carpet cleaner and used Dawn dish soap. It took it right out. Spot shot carpet cleaner works real well also. I have used that to remove crayon from carpet.

I hope you find something that works.

First put a paper towel over it and iron it on low. The paper towel will soak up some of the wax. Then you could try lestoil or dawn dish soap. Good luck.

Goo Gone, Goo Gone, Goo Gone

I see one other mother has used it. You will buy it by the case once you use it. I always thought crayon would be easy to get off of laminate flooring, NO it isn't. Goo Gone takes that off of laminate in a few seconds.
Goo Gone comes in either an orange scent/color or a golden color. It is slightly oily but you wipe it all up or off of things.
It is also great for getting stickers off of things. Kids usually put stickers all over everything.
Spray it on let it soak for a little, then wipe it off. Sometimes you might have to do it a second time, but it will work.
It also does minor candle wax.
You should find Goo Gone around the household cleaners or sometimes in hardware section.

My neighbor suggested vinegar and water to me for the same thing. I haven't tried it yet but she uses it on her carpets all the time and they are extremely clean.

White vinegar will help a whole lot! Just mix with a little water, blot it out or you can rub.
Believe it or not WD-40 works on a lot of things like that too, and so does Skin So Soft from Avon.
