They don't look great, but we have room darkening shades which make the room like night in the middle of the day. I put curtains over them, so they look better.
Hello,
In your experience, what is the best type of window covering to put in a baby's room or a toddler who still takes a nap every day? In our previous home, we had white faux-wood blinds- they looked nice but the room never really got dark for a nap. I want something that looks nice, is not too expensive, and keeps out most of the light.
Thanks!

Hi S.,
I have two boys and in each of their rooms, we have room darkening roman shades. I bought them from domestications (domestications.com). I believe the ones we have also are thermal or something where it keeps the cold out in the winter and heat out in the summer - we have an old house and even though the windows are new, this was a nice feature!
We've been really happy with them and it really does make their rooms darker! I believe they were $20 or $30 - very reasonable.
Hope this helps!

I use room darkening cordless pleated shades in both kids rooms. I bought them from Blinds.com. Mine were pricey because we have huge, non-common sized windows but I think pleated shades are usually reasonably priced.
Hi Steph ;)
Nathan has wood faux white blinds and then I have navy blue PBK curtains (with a thicker fabric) over them with cute curtain rods. The navy really keeps out the light and they look cute when I do open them, which isn't often. His room stays really nice and dark.
For our nursery, we had a room darkening roller shade and I "customized" some sheers to hang over it (sewed on yellow ribbons that tied over a wooden curtain rod). Total cost was less than $20. If you hate vinyl shades, there are really pretty fabric roller shades in room-darkening styles and I think places like Home Depot even carry them now. Definitely, nothing with cords.
We bought room darkening from Home Depot. They are made by Bali. We have the honeycombed ones that are cordless. We have been very happy with them. Its makes the room very very dark.
They have many different styles and colors.
They were not too expensive.
Good Luck.
