Anyone have any ideas what I can get for my Dad's 60th B-Day? I want to do something original but the man has everything he needs, and I'm not a very crafty or imaginitive person. Thanks in advance for any cool ideas!

What can I do next?

Denise, something we did for my grandmother a few years ago was to purchase a journal type book. and in it we had each of the family members write there best memory of something to do with her. Funny memories are the best but also touching memories are good. and let everyone write one. not just the grownups. older people like to know they have touched the younger generation also. good luck. hope it turns out well. we got my mom one of those picture frames you can download family photos into.

Hi Denise,
If you are throwing him a party I can help you with party invitations. I have a mom-owned stationery business located in Oak Lawn. Let me know if you need any help! My email is ____@____.com. I can send you samples also.
Thanks

We threw my father in law a surprise party at his favorite restaurant. My husband and I also purchased a gift certificate for him at Ditka's Sports Dome... he likes to go to the driving range, but had to give it up during the winter months, and he was able to go even when the weather was bad.

Does he like sports? maybe tickets to a cubs game...

You could make him a t-shirt with the boys handprints... some grandpa's will wear that kind of thing, other's might not - depends on your dad really.

I would not purchase anything from Sharper Image (if that's his thing) - they have filed for bankruptcy protection... word has it Circuit City is next...

just a few ideas... my dad just bought a new mustang (i think it's his 2nd mid-life crisis LOL!) and so I got him vouchers for touchless car wash near him.

For my dad's 60th I got him a book from Hallmark...I can't remember the name. It's sort of a memoir / journal. I think it's called A Dad's Legacy, or something like that. It asks him several questions about his life, starting at childhood. My dad loved it, it was only $15 & was a very special, appropriate gift for a milestone birthday. He has been slowing filling it out over the past 2 years. I presume he will give it to us in several, several years when he's done. I knew he'd enjoy filling it out...though not all people would enjoy doing something like this.

Something really cute and touching would be to do a video montage. I did it for my best friend's and sister's 30th birthdays and my cousins did it for my aunt's 60th and they were a huge hit. All you have to do is go through old (like when he was a baby and growing up) and new pictures of your dad by himself as well as with loved ones and some of the grandkids, pick out some music to go with each section you decide to do and then bring it to someone who does that type of thing and they do the rest. The first pictures I chose were them growing up and chose a song that I thought suited them, then I did another category for family and chose "We are Family" and "We Go Together" (from Grease) and I did one of friends and chose a song for that and then one of their kids and used Pat Benatar's "Tell Me Why." There was not a dry eye in the house after watching them. They are a great keepsake.

My parents also have everything they could possibly want and are difficult to shop for, so I usually do gag gifts or fun themed gifts for them.

You could do an "over the hill" gift. Go to Walgreen's or Walmart and get a cane, reading glasses, Depends, some fiber product, etc. Have fun with it and everyone will get a good laugh.

The other option is to do a sixties themed gift. Search party stores or Oriental Trading online for tie dye products and other items that are reminiscent of that time period.

Good luck!
