We have 3 cats. They are old and don't jump well. My daughter is 7 months old and I think that she will be ready to crawl soon. I could use some ideas about how to baby proof the cat food and water bowl and litter box, since all are choking and/or drowning hazards. However, I'm concerned about my cats' inability to jump over traditional baby gates. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I also have an older cat and an infant. The food and litter box are under my stairs. I have propped a gate between my water heater and deep freeze leaving enough space between the end of the gate and the wall for the cat to get through, but baby can't get in and can't tip the gate on herself. It works great for us!
Why does this same question keep getting asked? Is it an error in the system, or does it just repeat itself because there are so many replies?
Set the baby gates a few inches off of the floor.
We use a pressure baby-gate in a doorway that has molding at the bottom, so we always mount the gate about 4" off the floor, and our cat generally limbos underneath the gate, sliding along the floor. Could your cats do that?
I'm sure that there's a height that would be completely baby-safe while still being big enough for a cat.

You could use conventional baby gates only instead of putting them flush with the floor - put them up about 8 - 12 inches. Your baby shouldn't be able to crawl under them but your cats should be able to. I hope this helps you some - good luck!
