Hi Moms....I am a first time mom and wondering what do people do for the 1st birthday? My twin boys will be turning one in a few months and I am trying to come up with some ideas. Since they are my first, I have no idea what the "norm" is...so any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I just did my son's second birthday and I wish I would have done more on his first cause the second was a lot cuter. I made a cake by crumbling up a brownie into the bed of a toy dump truck. Mix a little frosting in there and voila! IT's really cute and yummy. Also I made all the kids craft aprons to wear while they painted pumpkins. I got the child's size aprons at Hobby Lobby and got fabric markers and wrote their names on the aprons. It was very fun. Also, the web site Oriental Trading Company has lots of good stuff and cheap. Good luck

All our family is on the east coast, so we really didn't do much for his first at all. Main reason, he's too young to care! If you have family/friends in the area, have a party to celebrate his birthday, but make it something you'll enjoy and be comfortable with. I'm planning on making a bigger fuss on his 2nd cause he'll be more aware of the fun factor. Enjoy! Oh, I'm a first time mom also :)

I went a little over board on my sons first, but I wanted it to be fun for everyone else there, and a one year old doesn't really get it yet. We had a circus theme and hired a clown (in a non scary way) to do magic and make balloon animals. Everyone loved it!!! it turned out really well. The clown was there for an hour and then we did cake and presents so 2 1/2 hours totally party time. This year he's really into farm animals so we're having a petting zoo. but the age range of the kids at his party will always be from about 1 to 15. So, I like to have something that entertains everyone. My sister has a bounce house so we'll blow that up too. Hope this helps. let me know if you want details on anything else.

Hi J.,
I am a child entertainer and have seen everything for a first birthday celebration from the renting of a private room at a restaurant (fully catered), decorated beautifully, to a nice home party with just family and a few close friends.
Some people feel the first birthday is a very special occasion and make it a big celebration. But, then the next few years they go with a smaller celebration until the child (or children in your case) are 4 or 5 (where they understand more).
I would say the majority go for a smaller home party with family and close friends as to not overwhelm the child. And, depending on the age of the attending children (guests), you can decide on any entertainment from there.
Happy early Birthday to you little ones. I'm sure whatever you do will be great!
