Hi All:
My niece is about to turn 16 and I'm at a loss for what to get her as a gift. She is lovely, smart, beautiful and very talented (dancing, singing, acting) - an all around great kid. We got her a Tiffany charm bracelet in the past and she keeps it in a drawer (??). Does anyone have ideas for a unique, memorable gift to get for a girl on her Sweet 16? We want to spend around $100. Thanks for your ideas!
Thanks to everyone for your fantastic ideas!! My husband and I decided to take her to dinner and a show - definitely something she will remember. I am going to keep some of the other ideas for Christmas and next year's birthday - thanks!

Try a nice digital camera if she does not have one, I just upgraded my 16 yr old daughters @ Circuit City for $129.00 it's a Samsung Slimmed to perfection L200 10.2-Megapixel Digital Camera - Plum. You can view this camera on their website. It was reg. $149.99.

If she's into dancing, what about trying to get tickets for the Rockettes Christmas show? I would think for a dancer, that would be spectacular!

If she is like most 16 year old girls she probably has lots of "stuff". if she is in to dance and acting I think taking her to a Broadway show or concert and out to dinner would be a night she wouldn't forget.

I work with children and teens in the hospital doing craft activities that are therapeutic and memorable for them. How about a very nice scrapbook and a gift card to pick out the scrapbook items she wants to use in it? She is coming up to many special events in high school and it would be a great way to rememberher 16th birthday and upcoming special occasions. You could also include a disposable camera for the party that day that she can include for the book.A.

Maybe you could take her to a theater. Hubbard Street Dance is reasonable and really cool for girls into Dance because it is something more modern.

How about going in with some other family members on an ipod or an iphone? I'm sure she would LOVE something like that. If her birthday is coming up soon, how about a pair of UGG boots? I don't think you could wrong with any of these...
She'll probably appreciate jewelry more as she gets a little older. Teenagers have their own taste in jewelry... If you want to go that route, I'd suggest a gift certificate.

We have done 2 different things with our kids. The idea about going to a play or musical is a good one. And it doesn't have to be a really expensive play/musical to be fun. Go to a high school play or a local dinner theater. That is the one the kids talk about the most. because its a fun night. we do the show and dinner. a different idea which we have also done is a basket with the following inside it. windshield wiper, bottle of Heat for the gas tank, a good warm pair of gloves for scraping the windshield, a scraper, and a gas card. and a key chain. they love this basket as most of them are getting ready to drive. good luck.

I think the Tiffany bracelet was a thoughtful gift. Perhaps she keeps it in a drawer because she places so much value on it and does not want it to get lost or damaged.
Can you think of a gift to convey to your niece how valuable she is? Maybe once she sees her own value she will wear the bracelet regularly.

They let you make great things. My granddaughter was in a play and I took the playbill, scanned it and they made her a pillow! She loves it and will keep it forever. You could get several things she's been in and add them together. Hope this helps.

Buy her a sweet 16 charm for the bracelet. She may not be wearing it now, but she is obviously keeping it in a safe place in the drawer. my guess is that she will really like it when she's older.

She may not like bracelets. But Tiffany is good! I was thinking pearls or diamonds...Does she have pierced ears? A Sweet 16 should always be made special.

We just finished having a Sweet 16th party this past Saturday and my niece was thrilled to have so many Gift Cards. Some of the Gift Cards she especially enjoyed was one for Ulta. She loves make-up and perfume but her uncle was at a loss and thought she could have fun shopping with her girlfriends. She also received a gift card for Kohl's, JCpenny, and I believe the other one was to download songs for her IPOD. I hope this helps.

maybe NOT memorable but certainly could be unique in your picking it out or her. When my middle daughter turned 16,I hosted a party of her friends and the theme was something related for a new driver. You could include all the "everything" needed for being a responsible driver. A road map of the area,,gas card for emergency, scraper, tire gauge, empty gas can, etc. Maybe a nice key chain for her first set of keys??? Or a gift certificate for a CD player to be installed when she gets her first car?? My daughter's party was a huge !!! hit. One mom even sent a glove box size phone book.AND what an awesome gift it was....it is still in the car,tho outdated....it comes in handy many times. Maybe a nicer purse and matching wallet would be a nice gift.....someplace for that driver's license that's coming. Good luck....I am sure whatever it is will be a nice sometihng for her. J.

There are some cute, stylish purses that she might like in that price range. I bought one for my niece for her 16th and she loved it (It was something she wouldn't buy for herself, and could use for special occasions).

I know gifts are nice but when my niece and nephew where that age I would give them cash because they always wanted cash to buy their own things. My nephew, especially, was always saving up for something expensive.

Hi A.,
Instead of bday gifts I take my nieces to events...we've seen Wicked, High School Musical and The Jonas Brothers in the past 3 years. They love going to something and we have a memory instead of a tangible item. I can't wait to look back at the Jonas Brothers concert with them down the road...we'll have some laughs for sure, but in the moment they were living a dream...ha ha!
I am suprised your niece stashed the Tiffany bracelet. I know for certain my nieces are looking for a Tiffany necklace this year...I got them the dog tag heart on a less expensive Tiffany chian (there is a large link chian that's popular) - it brought the cost down from over 300 to around 125. If they want the more expensive chain, they can trade up as long as they have the gift reciept.
Good luck!

Coach makes some cute "wristlets" and the girls that age in my family all put them on their Christmas/birthday lists. They also sell cute key chain/charms that you could add to it.
If you spend less than $100, maybe you could add a gift card or money inside the purse for spending.
At 16 she likely already has one, but what about a cell phone? Ipod Nano?
Since she keeps the bracelet in the drawer (silly girl-it's Tiffany!) I don't know if she's a jewelry person, but what about a nice pair of diamond stud earrings?
Best of luck!

at her age, MONEY, after a certain age it does get alittle bit more difficult to pick out gifts. but teenagers love money to by themselves what they want. Hey , did you try asking her what she wants? that's another great idea.

I had posted a similar question a month or so ago. Had great responses such as something related to driving...special case for licesnse, auto kit (special key ring, maps, cables, tire pressure gauge, etc.), special birthstone ring or necklace, scrapbook (and papers/stickers) commemorating 16th year, take her to a special performance (musical, play, ballet, orchestra, game) that she'd really enjoy as an adult, Pandora charm bracelet which screws on and can be updated, another idea is if she is of a certain ethnic background a related necklace such as a Celtic knot, Italian horn, four-leaf clover, etc.
Good luck!

Hi A.,
If she is a dance/theatre buff, then taking her to a great show or ballet in the city might be something memorable -- and it won't sit in the drawer. 100 should just cover some matinee tickets, and a commemorative tshirt, program, etc. Find out if she's interested in live theatrical performances going on all over the city and suburbs.
Best,

While it's not 100.00 how about a pretty engraved key chain? (think drivers license at 16)
Does she wear earings? A nice set of good earings is always nice. Sorry I don't have other suggestions, when my oldest DD turned 16, it was all about cold hard cash or gift cards to her favorite stores.

I agree with "events". Wicked is a nice choice or another matinee that you could purchase a couple tickets and still invite the mom or her friend or just take her out beforehand. And she may even wear her Tiffany charm bracelet to her event! I know a friend who purchased tickets for "American Idol" when they came to town. Very cool! Good Luck!
