Hi Mamas,
My son and I are trying to figure out the best way to celebrate his 12th birthday. We might do something small and just take a few friends somewhere. Either way, I'm looking for ideas on where to hold a fun pre-teen geared party or just a cool place that I can take him and his friends.

Your help is greatly appreciated!! :)
Thanks,
~M.

We've done Pizza and Movies and Electronic Game Day at our house (he'd just gotten his Wii -- he's been to one where they had a room dedicated to each platform: Gamecube, Wii, Playstation and xBox360 -- borrowed of course!). We tried miniature golfing once, but the boys have to be interested. He's also gone to pool parties at the local pool and bowling parties.

Hi M.,

Bowling and pizza! Some places have package deals and you can bring in a cake. Boys that age (any age really), tend to make a lot of noise and can be messy. Bowling is fun and you don't have to clean up the mess. I can recommend Palo Alto Bowl on El Camino Real.

Happy Birthday!

The main thing is ask your son what he wants to do first. He might not like bowling and you don't want to schedule a bowling party if that is not what he wants.

I have done a Great America Party. Luckily all the kids had their season passes but one. I made all the kids stay together and they did not roam off on their own.

I also did a slumber party at the Embassy Suites in Milpitas. I walked across the street and they went roller skating and when they were done they went swimming at the hotel. The hotel also had free drinks and snacks so I did not have to provide snacks and I brought a cake. In the morning the hotel provided breakfast. The bad thing about that was my child could only invite 3 friends because the hotel room accomodated 5 people unless you buy to rooms and a adult has to be in both rooms. Sorry there are no adjoining rooms at that particular hotel. I also had a cottage room at the Sheraton in Milpitas that was nice the pool was outdoors and not indoors like the Embassy, but I had buy food for breakfast.

Hi,
Don't know where you are located, but my 12 year old son wanted to celebrate at Laser Quest in Palo Alto. They had a blast. :)
