I keep my bathroom cleaned but the shower liner always gets grimy. I do not want to take it down every week to wash it because it is a pain. how do you keep yours clean?

What can I do next?

Mine usually takes a few months before it starts to get weird... then I just buy a new one. I spray mine with a cleaner that has bleach in it, keeps it pretty good for a time. My husband is bad about not spreading it back out to dry properly after he has his bath in the morning, and sometimes I forget to do it myself. But if you spread it after showering and bathing and have some decent ventilation, it should be okay. They only get messed up if they stay wet.

Mine never needed to be cleaned that often. Is it used a lot? I always got away with once a month or so, but then, I took a lot of baths so it wasn't getting wet every day.

I never let it bunch up and spray it with white vinegar after every shower.

If it is a plastic liner, get rid of it and get yourself a FABRIC liner. You can find them at Walmart and Target for around $10. I usually throw it in the wash one a month on hot with some detergent and oxy clean.

I have had my current fabric liner for 5 years and expect to get many more years use out of it. The only reason I am on my second one is because we redecorated and I needed a white one instead if the cream one that we had.

always close the curtain after your shower so it can dry out, if it is opened spots stay wet & get moldy

also I just spray it down after my shower with whatever cleaner you use (i only use vinegar)

leave your vent on for 5-10 minutes after your shower to help get the humidity out of the room

My daughter has a favorite one from Kohls. It is clear, has pockets fir shampoo, etc... Really cool. When I bought the first one and she loved it.... I went and bought all Kohls had as backups.

I will rarely wash it in bleach and hang up to dry. We are on curtain #2 now. I change out when I think it's gross and the bleach wash just does not help. The bleach wash also Deterioriates the plastic.

I'm in the plastic business ( raw materials) so I know when it has been through enough.

Once a month I take my shower curtain down and wash it in the washer with bleach.

I carefully take it out and rehang it to dry.

You need to make sure that you leave at least one inch of space on each side of the curtain to allow air to circulate.

If you take it down and wash it in hot hot hot water with bleach in it then it should not be getting that gunky. I only take mine down a couple of times per year and it is the shower for all four of us. I also tried to just spray a cleaner, like Clorox Cleanup on it and that worked too. I use that on stubborn spots on white clothes too. If all else fails use a bleach water solution in a spray bottle. 1 tbsp. to a quart or up to a half gallon. Empty each day though.

You have to keep it closed (like someone is in the shower) after showers. That REALLY helps. (Nw if my husband could just *grasp* the concept! Grrrrr)
Also, machine wash & you can put them in the dryer for a few minutes. I do it all the time.

They have that stuff that you can spray on your shower after you take one to help keep it clean - try that.

I keep a spray bottle with undiluted white vinegar in the bathroom, spray the shower curtain with it, and leave it. The vinegar kills mildew and dissolves mineral deposits.

Just a thought. If part of the problem is the difficulty taking down the liner to clean, I find it much easier now that I have the shower curtain rings that have openings in the front.

I found that the less-cheap, 'mildew resistant' plastic liners keep better than the very cheap ones.

As others mentioned: pull it nearly closed after each use. And maybe keep the fan on (or window cracked) after a steamy shower/bath to reduce moisture in the air.

Good luck!

We have two liners in each bathroom. The outside one is fabric and is always kept outside of the shower and the inside one is a cheapy liner that you can find at family dollar for around $3.00. When it gets yucky it goes in the garbage!
