True story I swear. When my 3 year old grew out of the "not so stinky poop" and into the "#$%* girl you stink poop" I thought something had died. I think it is a normal stage that children go through. Many times I ended up throwing up in the process of trying to change her diaper and even had to summons my next door neighbor to come finish the job for me. I wouldn't worry so much.

I wouldn't worry too much about the poop. If it is really causing you concern save a sample in a an cleaned out butter dish and take it to you doctor to look at. Test can be run if the doctor chooses. If you are breastfeeding I think green stinky poop is unusual but if you are formula feeding it isn't that abnormal. Hope this helps.

My kids were both breast fed, and my son was also given formula. His BMs were totally different than my daughter's. Even as they have gotten through different stages, their BMs have been totally different, but I'm not concerned that they are unhealthy because everything always checks out at the Dr visits. I think everyone's bodies function differently, and you're seeing an example of that. :) As the others said, if it worries you, talk to the Ped at her next appointment.

Hi E....my nephew is going on 3 months old, and i watch him 2 days a week, and his poop is the same! It started out not so bad, because my sister was breastfeeding him exclusively. Once she started back to work, she pumped for awhile, but supplemented with formula...he had to be switched around on formulas for a bit, until they found one that agreed with his tummy. Now, he's pretty much on formula full time, a soy based one made by Carnation,Good Start Supreme, and his poops have gotten so horrid, i hate to change his diaper! :) When he was being breastfed, they had very little smell, and had an almost watery consistancy to them. But now, they are like paste, and dark green! I think it all depends on what is going into them. I have 3 children, all of whom were breastfed. I am 30 weeks preg. w/#4 also...she'll be breastfed too...so i was shocked by the difference in stools of breastfed versus formula fed babies! I don't think you should worry much. :) It's normal. Just make sure there are plenty of clothes pins around for plugging your nose come changing time!!! LOL!

E., Have you been nursing? or formula feeding the baby? If nursing, did you change your diet, is it every poop or just once a day? Did you change the formula, or add an antibiotic or something? Just offering suggestions....

Hi there. It seems normal. I have a year and a half year old daughter and she did the same thing. It changes all the time with texture, smell, etc. If your really concerned contact your baby's doctor just to confirm.

Are you giving her formula? It could be the kind you are giving her. If you are, try switching brands and see if that helps. I know my son couldn't have regular formula so we had to put him on soy. He had the awfullest poop with that.

Do you breastfeed or formula feed? Because that sounds like normal poo for formula fed babies. And breast fed babies should have like seedy yellow poo. My daughter's was like that (seedy yellow) and then when I started her on formula, hers changed to the green pasty poo. But if you are really worried about it, then I would ask her pediatrician, just to make sure..good luck :)

Is she on formula? If you are feeding her formula, there is a different odor associated with formula. Possilby switch brands if that is the case.
If you are breast feeding maybe you should check what you are eating. Maybe not so many vegitables.
As long as the poo is green though I don't think I would worry.
Is she pooping more than you think is normal? I would also try to make sure she's not dehydrated. The flu, no matter what age will create a terrible scent coming from your baby. I wish you luck and hope this clears up.

You shouldn't worry, my daughter was the same way for a while and yet to this day has some of the worst smelling poop...she gags my mom everytime I change her diaper at the house and has bought cans of lysol for every room and sprays the house so much trying to get the smell out but she says it lingers.
So anyway don't worry too much about it.

are there any other symptoms? is she breast fed or bottle fed?
if she is breast fed, it is probably something you are eating. if not, you might try switching formulas.

if she is breast fed, there is a great book called baby matters and it talks about how to figure out what might be causing it.

good luck.

Unless your baby is constipated or having pain when she has a bowel movement I wouldn't worry too much. To me those are the more troubling issues with babies and pooping. Super icky poop is probably just fine, but if you are concerned your best bet would probably be just to ask your pediatrician.

HI! First of all, you are not alone. My son will be 4 months on June 1st, and I have also wondered about his bowels. Some times he has normal baby poop ( a mushy, yellow mess), but most of the time he has what we refer to as big kid poop (a long solid turd). It is also a combination of dark and light shades of green. I have asked his pediatrician about this, and she says it is normal. As long as she is not having extreme discomfort and difficulty with bowel movements, and as long as there is no blood in the poop, everything is probably fine. And yes, my son's also stinks!! My older two were not like this, so I attribute it to the formula my baby is on....... Enfamil Lipil with iron. Hopefully this helps, but as a worrying mom myself, I know how it can be. If you are too concerned, make sure to bring it up at your daughters next well baby appointment! Congratulations on your new baby girl, and good luck!!

i know what you are going through. I have a 10 yr old, 2 1/2 yr old and a 6 week old. My first two kids there poop wasnt that bad. But my son i had April 6th. Oh lord, when he poops you know it. And the smell well lets just say it leaves you hoping he dont do it very often. Its just like what you described and he only takes formula. I hope when he starts solid food that it doesnt get worse at least i hope not. anyway, i think its okay i dont see it being a problem. Everyone tells me each child is different. My other two didnt get baby acne but my 3rd child has it. The poop thing is something we will just have to live with and hope it gets better when they start eating food. My son takes Good Start Supreme with DHA and ARA. What does your daughter take? I hope this helps.

What kind of milk is your baby on? It could be your baby is getting to much iron. Iron can do that. Or your baby could be having a hard time digesting iron.

I honestly would talk with her pediatrician about this, because perhaps she has some sort of allergy or bad reaction to her formula.

Do you breastfeed or bottle feed? That makes a difference too. Breastfeed poop is looser and seedy. It also has a very distincitive smell. Bottle fed baby poop varys more depending on the type of formula. If you are bottle feeding I wouldn't worry about it every baby is a little different. If you are breastfeeding so long as the baby isn't have constipation problems I don't think I would worry. If she seems very constipated then you might call her doctor. I hope this helps you.

My daughter is 4 months old now. When she was 2 months she had the same thing. She actually did it up until a little after 3 months. Then it started to lighten up a little. It still smells awful though. It has to be one of the worst smelling things I have ever smelled before. It makes you wonder how something so pretty can smell so bad!!! The color will get better. Probably not the smell, but it will lighten up. Do you feed her formula or breastmilk? If you can, you should try giving her a little breastmilk a day. If not, they do have a formula that will losen the bm's. They almost put Evee on it. But the 3 + ounces of breastmilk a day really helped. Evee is my first baby, so I am not sure if I can tell you much that you don't already know but if you have any more questions I can sure try. You can email me at ____@____.com. I will help anyway I can. And maybe you could answer some ?'s for me too, since you have a 3 year old. Hope I could help!

Hi E.,
I had the same problem with my girls when they were a baby. I was so concerned that i even brought a sample to the doctor so they could have it tested for any kind of bacteria or just anything. They said the foods that i was feeding them could change the color of the stools. Even what they drank could change the color. The test results all came back negative. Thank God! I even told my doctor that is looked like radioacive waste , lol. I was really scared. My kids are 9 and 7 today and every once in a while their poop is still the tar green poop. If it concerns you, i would talk to your doctor and take a sample into her so they really know what you are talking about since i know it is hard to describe it fully to your doctor. If your breast feeding ,it may be coming from what you are eating. Check his/her iron level also. I hope you get some peace of mind with this issue.

Hi! If you don't get a lot of response today, try posting tonight or tomorrow, I have found that people seem to respond more during the week than on weekends.

First, are you breastfeeding or formula feeding, this makes a difference. I have quite a few ideas for you if you are breastfeeding, I don't know anything about formula except that formula poo is much grosser than breast milk poo.

Let me know if you are breastfeeding and want more info!
