Zephyr's (which I think is in Ravenswood) or "The Chocolate Shoppe" on Devon and Central, or Petersen's which is in Oak Park.
My grandson will be graduating on June 15, from pre school and I would like to take him and my other
grandchildren to a nice ice cream place after his graduation, I want to make sure that I make his day a special day.
I live in Chicago, and there is Margie's but have no problem with driving to suburbs.
Thanks mom and grandmoms
Thanks everyone for all the great help, This makes things a whole lot easier and even if I can't get to any of the suggestions tomorrow
I don't have to wait for a special occasion to take my grandbabies for ice cream, just by going with them is special enough for me.
Again thanks to all the mom and grand moms out there.

There's a great place in the Andersonville neighborhood called George's It's on Clark Street just north of Berwyn. (A few blocks north of Foster.) Tons of flavors, nice environment. My kids love it. Have fun!
What a nice Grandma you are! Whatever you do, its the recognition he gets and the special way you treat him that he'll remember. It dosen't mattre where you go. The world should be full of grandmas like you. I plan to be one someday!
Have fun and enjoy those grandkids!

There are several Coldstone Creameries in Chicago now. They have great ice cream and you choose what you want them to mix into it. I bet the kids would like that as well. You're a great grandma!
I say Coldstone Creamery too. They also have a birthday club, you can sign up online for free ice cream on your birthday (up to 5 family members)!
iCream on Milwaukee and North is very cool and great for kids 5 and older but a little overwhelming if you have alot of little ones.
Perhaps if you could narrow this down to a neighborhood or suburb, we could easily suggest a place! Would this be in the city, north side, south side, loop?
don't know where in Chicago you are, but there's a Coldstone in University Village (maxwell St area) and a cute little place called Scoops on 31st Street in Bridgeport. These might be closed now, but Gerties was always a treat when we were younger and there used to be one around Ford City.
Cute idea for preK graduation!
i second cold stone creamery, but also (brace yourselves) friendlys. my kids love friendlys, and as much as i hate that place, i suck it up once a month on a friday and take them there, usually just for dessert.
I would absolutely recommend The Brown Cow, in Forest Park. They have a little party room, and they are especially oriented toward children. Enjoy!
My daughter and I visited a half dozen ice cream shops last summer (recommendations from people we knew, "best of" lists). Our favorites:
- The Plush Horse (Palos Park, SW suburb)- best ice cream, nice ambiance
- Scoop's (Bridgeport neighborhood in Chicago) - great ice cream, small storefront
- i cream (Bucktown in Chicago) - good ice cream, very cool concept - you pick the base flavor, mix ins, and even color if you want (purple ice cream anyone?) and they mix it and freeze it right in front of you with Liquid nitrogen
- Bobtail (a couple locations I think; we went to Lakeview in Chicago) - good ice cream, cute shop
- Margie's is great for atmosphere and variety of sundaes and creations but sadly the actual ice cream is just okay (IMHO)
You sound like a wonderful grandmother. Have fun with the grand kids!
