My daughter's 6th Birthday party is coming up Saturday April 24th. She decided she wants an icarly theme. This year (like always) there will be a lot of kids there, very mixed ages and genders... Aprx 23 kids total! Believe it or not, we did not even invite any kids from her class! lol ... Anyway, Of that there are a few that are under 2 and then there are about 5 or 6 over 10 yrs old... The rest are everything in between... Every year I stress myself out with making sure each goody bag is age and gender appropriate, its a total pain in the butt and I end up spending WAYY too much! Do you have any suggestions of something easier I could do that doesn't cost a fortune? Since there are so many kids, I'm looking to keep the cost down as much as possible! Appreciate any help :)

Maybe you good skip the goody bags all together. Come up with a craft or something they can take home with them .Hope you are serving Spaghetti Tacos. :)

A., your so thoughful to try to think of something to make everyone happy! All I can say is whoever the first parent was to start handing out gift bags needs to be shot....
One of my girlfriends had a similiar type situation at her daughters birthday party. She ditched the idea of "goody bags" altogether and just got a bucket and filled it with various little trinkets and kept it near the gate where kids would be leaving. Then, as the kids were leaving, she let them pick one or two little things from the bucket. This way, it took the guess work out of trying to find things to fit the different age groups. You could fill it with snack packs of goldfish crackers for the smaller ones to pick out, mini water guns, maybe a LITTLE bit of candy or bubble gum, etc. Go to party city, but the pinata goodie filler (I think its like $8 to $10) dump it in a bucket and call it a day.
You do not need a goody bag. Kids today expect them, but they can handle not having a bag full of cheap toys to take home. I have done them when I could tie it in with the theme (a carnival party had a popcorn ball, a clown nose, and cotton candy in it, for example). Do you really want to spend a lot of money on junk that gets tossed? If you HAVE to give something out, print your own candy wrappers and put them on a Hershy bar for each kid. Transform it into an iCarly bar, hand them out, and call it good. Don't stress --- it is not worth it!

A thought, already voiced, is that you dump the goody bag altogether, and maybe do a craft as a take home. Another thought is a pinata (maybe in the shape of a microphone) and that---the pinata insides--can be the goody bag?

I'd just visit the bulk store and buy many different types of candy. Have a scoop for each bowl of candy and let the kids fill a small bag themselves (with parental supervision!). Stress-free and kids love it!
Go to Big Lots, Family Dollar, Dollar General, any of those types of stores. And the kids are there to have fun, I wouldn't give out any goody bags, or if you do, make it cheap candy that everyone can eat.......

I usually do a craft for my kids guests to do and take home. It serves two purposes, kills some of the party time and gives the kids (or parents) something to enjoy for years to come. We have done handprint stepping stones, t-shitrs, frisbees and flower pots (just to name some). If you buy the supplies on sale the cost ends up being about the same, the kids get to be creative (the parents can help the younger ones) and everyone is happy. For the stepping stones I don't get the kits (too expensive) I get the aluminum pans of different sizes, mix up some quick dry cement (the 30 minute stuff) some flattened marble things, and the plastic letters for pressing into the cement so they can put their names and the date in the block (not the magnetic letters the kids play with they are actually for this purpose, you could just have sticks for them to write with but if the cement is too dry when they try to write it won't take so well).
I have the same problem. The kids range from 2-13!
I've been getting those bags of individually wrapped teddy grams and cheese-its, along with strips of stickers that are gender neutral. The kids are always happy and so are the parents. I know that personally, I get a little irritated that alot of people put little toys that get broken or forgotten about in 5 minutes and candy that my kids don't need. I used to be a culprit, but I have changed my ways, lol! Good luck!!
