My 4 year old is potty trained and has been for a while now but all of a sudden she is wetting herself at school and home. The teacher in her class said that she thinks she was afraid to ask to go the the rest room. Afraid to ask....why would my child be afraid to ask to use the restroom. She had an accident last night where she wet the bed, she is always running to the bathroom at home like she is about to wet her self right then and there and can't hold it. Others have told me that maybe she is just not wanting to interupt her playing and just waits to the last mintue to go. I am so unsure, maybe i need totake her to the doctor and have some test ran? If you have experienced what i am going through please help me with any suggestions that you can give.
Take her to the doctor right away. It's possible she has a UTI or kidney infection which needs to be treated ASAP!
Yep by daughter did that at one time and when I took her to the doctor they did a urine sample and it was negative for Urinary track infection but she kept doing it so we went back and they did another urine test but sent for cultures and it came back she did have a UTI. So I would take her to the doctor and if it comes back negative in the office be pushy and ask for them to culture it. It can't hurt at all other to know where or not she has something or not. If you are like me, I knew that she never had issues before and then she was having accidents and I knew something wasn't right.If she has one, it can get clear in no time. Good Luck. M.
I would definitely take her in to the ped and have them test her urine. My daughter had a bladder infection and presented similar symptoms. They put her on antibiotics and decided to go ahead and test her kidneys at the hospital (due to myself having had bladder surgery, etc.) She was fine and after a week on the antibiotics, she was able to make it to the bathroom without any accidents.
I would defintely rule out an infection. That said, my daughter did something similar a couple of times after she was fully trained. She'd hold it and hold it until it was too late. It would be obvious she had to go but she'd deny it and would wet her pants. I wish I had the magic answer... nothing I did or said seemed to make a big difference but she stopped doing it after a few weeks or so.
I just wanted to let you know that my 4 year old daughter was doing that and did have a pretty bad infection. Just to err on the safe side I would take her to the doctor and have her checked out. It sounds like exactly the same situation that my daughter was going through.
I would take her to the doctor, couldn't hurt. I am in no way trying to scare you but at the same age is when my brother was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes with the same type of systems. He started wetting the bed and not being able to hold it another system is extreme thirst. It is better to be safe than sorry!!!
As a mother it is hard to tell why a child of that age is wetting herself after potty training. Tramatic event is "her" eyes, doesn't want to take time to go, attention seeking, lastly infection. My advice as a nurse would be to take her and have them do a UA on her just to make sure. It won't hurt anything. There are symptoms that usually would point towards UTI, but at her age it isn't likely that she would be able to voice these symptoms. "When in doubt, check it out".... Good luck to you.
My oldest daughter, now 5 1/2 did the same thing around age four. I brought her to the pediatrician, and she did not have an infection. I also spoke to her about going potty as soon as she felt she had to go, rather than continuing play. She still wets her bed at night, but that is something that occured with two of her aunts, so I am not worried about over night. My third daughter was born when she turned four, so that could have been affecting her. Are there any new situations in your life. Maybe this is her asking for attention?

Definitely take her to the doctor as soon as possible. I have a 5 year old daughter who was having many of the same "symptoms" you described. After further testing with a specialist, it was determined that she does have a physical condition involving a valve that will probably require minor surgery to correct. Hopefully, yours is nothing that serious, but if it is and is left untreated, it could create bigger problems down the road.
I strongly agree with most of the mothers on here, My son was going through the same thing the other day where he would just pee on the floor but he's 3.. It boggled me as well because he NEVER wets anything or pees anywhere else but the potty not only that but he did tell me his pee pee hurt. Catching it early I made him drink lots of water and that seemed to help but if this has gone on for more than a day or 2 .. I really would recommend taking her to the doctor.! Good luck!!!
