I Think My Baby May Have Eczema

My little guy has always had dry skin but over the holiday we stayed with family and he developed a bad rash on his chest and tummy that was red patches and then little red dots. I think it was the change in laundry soap and use of fabric softener (I use soap without dyes or perfumes.) The rash is pretty much gone now but he has really dry patches on his elbows and I've heard that eczema starts in that area. Could it be a food allergy? I really don't know much about the subject. Thanks for your responses!!

My daughter had the exact same issues when she was a few months old. I noticed that those patches would pop up after people, mainly my mother-in-law, would hold her. After asking and eliminating things we figured out that my mil used highly scented soaps and lotions. Once I asked her not to use to to see if that was the culprit, we didn't have anymore problems. It was a fairly easy fix.
I do still have to keep her slathered in Eucerin, per my pedi's suggestion. That does the trick for us and we have avoided any other major break outs of it.

Good luck!

Hi C.

My friend's grandson was having the same problems and I gave her some of Arbonne's Baby Care products to try and it cleared up. Now Arbonne is the only products her daughter uses on her sons. http://www.arbonne.com/products/baby/
Please feel free to contact me, if I can be of any futher help.

I hope your son's eczema gets better soon.

All the best

I'm not sure about the eczema, but Aveeno Aquaphor ointment is excellent for treating dry patches.

Sounds similar to my son's eczema problems. (My son calls it "itchy egg bites".) *smile* The only thing that ever works on Trenton is Aveeno for Eczema. YOu can find it at Walmart in the isle that is over in the beauty section where a handful of baby items are kept...not in the lotions or by the diapers...for some reason I can only find it there - I think it is the soap isle.

my son has excema and it is basically dry patches throughout his little body. if it were food it would be all over his body completely. my sons dr. perscribes hydrocorizone cream or ointment u can buy that over the counter. it helps and i definitley have to use alot during the winter b/c thats when it acts up the most.

I have a son who has had dry spots and his hands have been horrible especially around this time of year. I have found a lotion, Renew by Melaleuca that I have found really works for our son. I have liked the lotion and other products that I am now a consultant for them.

It could be food, contact agents - like softener, soaps, etc, or airbornes like perfumes, etc. Ask me - my little one is allergic to almost everything under the sun and had such severe eczema that I had pull nights researching every possible cure and treatment for it.....nightmarish! Good to hear that your little one is not that severely affected. Keep an eye out for changes in his diet or agents in his immediate environment, including as Jessica brought up, new perfumes. Good luck!
