No problems and no regrets! I hated the thing with such a passion that it was an amazing relief to get rid of it! I had zero problems with removal, and let out a big sigh when it was finally out of my system!!!
Yes, I know, more about Mirena! I've been reading and asking and reading and pondering and reflecting on the aches and pains and frustrating, aggravating inability to drop a pound, strange hip joint pain, crazy insane mood swings and all the other stuff and I've come to the conclusion that I want it out. Even if I have to struggle through a crash, or have to deal with condoms...ick-I think it's time for this foreign object in me to go.
I just want to know, have any of you that had problems and gotten it removed, regretted the actual removal? Anything I should look out for?
Made my appointment to have it out, 2 more weeks. I am nervous because I know I am putting myself at great risk of pregnancy, because I cannot take another bc right now-still nursing and want to give my body a little break anyway, but DH is being very supportive and I am hopeful that I will regain some of me once this foreign thing is out of me! Best of luck to others too!

Get it out!
I really had none of these insane side effects that other women have experienced. I actually liked my Mirena for the most part. However, I started to tire of never knowing when my period was coming. It got to the point where I would have a period every 2 weeks, then skip a month, then 3 periods a month... etc. It had no rhyme or reason. I started researching it more and realized how many women report weight gain and inability to lose weight with Mirena. That is when I decided it had to go. I work out religiously and watch what I eat but I had to practically starve myself and work out 6 days a week over an hour a day to even make a dent in my weight. Now that I have it out, it seems to be much easier to lose weight. I lost 10 lb the month after I got it out. It didn't just fall off, I had to work it off, but it DID come off.
Yes, be prepared for a "crash". Not everyone experiences it, but you will do much better if you know it may be coming. Getting the Mirena out takes like 30 seconds and does not hurt. I had no bleeding or pain afterward. It took a week or 2 before I really started noticing the "Crash" and I had not been expecting it so it took me a while to figure out why I was so tired and depressed. I would sleep 8 full hours, wake up, do a few chores, take a nap, do a workout and a few chores, take another nap, dinner, go to bed. I slept ALL THE TIME. I only had a few hours a day that I was functional. I was on the brink of crying all the time. I literally fell asleep standing up while I was putting on my makeup. I was afraid to drive. The good news is the crash lasted a month at most. It improved once I took action: multivitamins, amped up my exercise, lots of water, cut out all caffeine as I think it was adding to the sluggishness, changed diet- no processed food, lots of fruits and veggies. I made sure I was opening the curtains right in the morning so I wouldn't be tempted to lay on the couch all day. I think if you go into it aware of how your body may react and have a game plan, it will be worth it. Knowing how so many women react to Mirena, I never would consider an IUD ever again. I am lucky my husband had a vasectomy! Good luck.
I only had the Mirena in for a few months before I got it removed, so I don't really remember having a crash. I switched immediately to the Pill, so I had some hormonal issues with getting used to the pill again (and probably from adjusting from the Mirena being taken out, just the hormone change in general). It wasn't too bad; I was definitely moodier and crankier and more tired for a few weeks. But it was manageable. I didn't regret it at all, because I just wasn't comfortable with having a piece of plastic inside of me all the time, and also because I hated not getting my period! :-) I know that's weird, but every time I didn't get my period I'd always be a little paranoid that I was pregnant. I guess I like that monthly reassurance that I'm not pregnant (we're definitely not ready for another one yet).
Oh, watch out for lots of bleeding when you get it out! Okay, not LOTS, but my periods were a little heavy after the Mirena came out; it's as if my body had to make up for all those months I didn't have my period. :-)
I had no issues or crash when it came out... but I also had not issues with i in... so I guess as someone else said.. be prepared
I did get pregnant within like a week , so have your new method ready to go!
Get it out then get a copper one put in. Copper ones are non hormonal and could save you a very large headache.
Thank you for posting this. I've been considering having mine removed because of similar issues. After my first child I worked really hard and lost like 60 pounds. After my second I had the Mirena put in and have been doing the same exercise and eating right thing as before and it isn't working. I've been super frustrated and seeing some of these comments combined with other things I have seen online and my own gut instincts...I am convinced that its impeding my success. So, now I just need to make an appointment to have it removed.
No Regrets here !! I think the 2 month "crash" I went through was worth it - and everyone is different. I actually felt relieved....
Take vitamins, drink lots of water and try to get exercise - that will help you with the 'crash'. good luck
I had no issues taking it out, but I loved having it in so your experience may differ. I have a lot of friends IRL who have had the Mirena and have never heard of a "crash" anywhere other than this board, so those who have had issues post-removal may be a little over-represented here. I would have it put back in in a second if I needed birth control again. Good luck - hopefully the Mirena is actually the source of your symptoms and they clear when it's removed!
