Hi, I am five months pregnant with my son and just in the last week I am turning purple, quite literally. My ankles, my knees, my hands and wrists are turning purple. My doc said something about blood circulation not being distributed evenly b/c most of it is going to the baby. But whenever I am in the shower for long periods of time or just walk around for more than 15 minutes of time, my skin looks like it's not getting enough oxygen. Almost as bad as a scene from Titanic where everyone is freezing to death. It's really freaking me out, and I need to know it it's normal to turn purple while standing or sitting upright? I can't lay down ALL day to keep my circulation (if that's what it is) at bay. But, my belly is fine. The baby keeps kicking as normal, so I know it's not affecting him at all.

What can I do next?

I had a realy hard time with both of my pregancys. I blueup like I was going to burst. Like you know when you blow a bloon up to big and it pops? That is hwo I felt, Me being 130 LB. I got so big I waid 188LB befor I gave burth to my son. All I can say is try your best to keep your feet up and drink a lot of water. My feet got so big I couldn't get scocks on my feet at all. I could only put hugge shirts on and my undies. I feel what your going through. Hope all turns out for you and the baby. S.

I had a similar experience. I was freaked out too. Mine was primarily my feet. My doc said that when you stand on your feet for too long and the circulation is strained, that more blood will "pool" in your feet. So I woudld elevate my feet a bit and the color returned to normal. It's funny you mentioned the shower because that is when mine was the worst...the most purple. It looked just like you explained it, like I was very VERY cold. So, if you trust what your doctor is saying (I trusted mine - Dr Geffrey Klein in Webster) and you have other sources to make you feel that it is normal, (which I did) - then try elevating your feet. I have no experience with the hands - maybe another mom can help you with that. :) Much love and blessings to you! M. - The Photo Chic

Maybe you should try a pregnancy belt to see if that helps hold the purssure of the baby off of whatever it is that is causing you this problem. Ask your OBY.

PS-- I am a lactation consultation and I rent/sell breastpumps if you are in need of that. Let me know - ____@____.com.

GO TO ANOTHER DOCTOR OR THE EMERGENCY ROOM. If you are not getting enough circulation neither is your baby. I do not care what your doctor says. GO LIKE NOW>
