I Need to Rehome My 2 Year Old Rat Terrier!!

Okay, I will post here first before posting an ad on Craig's list - we have a 2 year old Rat Terrier - he is neutered, house broken, crate trained - that needs a new home. I surrendered to my children's pleading for a dog - we adopted him in January of this year from a family who didn't have time for him. He is a super sweet, cute little dog - he weighs about 12 pounds fully grown - he is up to date on vaccinations and we had him neutered in January. He needs a loving, attentive family - he would probably do best in a home with another playful dog - I think he is lonely, they are a smart, social breed of dog (and the same dog Carrie Underwood has...) - they do better with 2 of them, and no way is my dh allowing a second dog - he was totally against getting this one. He would need a secure fenced yard - or he will run away (he would come back, but you can't let him run loose!) - he sleeps in his crate at night from about 10 p.m. until 7-8 a.m. - he can stay in his kennel if you are gone, but he did best just outside or in our gameroom (that shuts off from the rest of the house) - he can not be left unsupervised to roam the house freely....

If anyone is looking for a nice family dog, and has the time to devote to him, please email me - please don't bother emailing me to slam me or tell me how bad of a pet owner I am for not keeping him. We will keep him until a suitable family is willing to adopt him - we will NOT take him to an animal shelter.

He is very good with kids - he doesn't bite or bark a lot - he loves to go on walks/runs, loves to ride in the car - he likes to play in the pool with the kids.

He will come with his crate, his mattress, his toys, his leashes, bandana collection and his bowls and food.

I have really mixed feelings, my son loves this dog - but the kids do not spend enough time playing with him and he needs more...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow, I am so thankful for the loving responses! We decided to wait until after the kids trip in July to make any decisions - I am going to follow up with all of you that replied. thank you all so much, i feel reassured that we can find him a great home.

Can you post a photo and tell me why he can not roam the house freely.

I am considering a second dog. I have a 2'1/2 year old 20 lb terrior mix who might like a friend. I am not sure.

I just read the responses below. Sounds like there are a few openings for another loving home for him.
Glad you are concerned for the dog's happiness and attention needs.
But if it makes you feel any better. You of course have to be happy & well rested so you can do what you need to do as a mom and nurse! Best Wishes!

I already have 2 dogs and don't need another with one of mine being a new puppy, but if you have to post an ad, please don't post on craig's list. Go to www.dogster.com and post there. They are a whole website of dog lovers (really gung-ho dog lovers) and you will find a much better home for your little guy.

Good Luck!

I can't take him in, but wanted to commend you for taking the steps to ensure that he goes to a good home rather than the shelter. Good for you!

If he is still avalible. I would take him. I have one and her name is Sandi Lee. She is not my dog but my daughter. She is well LOVED and not Spoiled just well Loved. I do live in a apartnment but I am home with them everday. I also have a sister who has a back yard and Sanid goes over every weekend to play. I take her everywhere with me. Even on trips. She sleeps with me. She is a Baby Sitter to my son. Sanid would love a playmate. Please contact me at ____@____.com If you still have him. Or call me at ###-###-####. I am off Stanley keller and Haltom Road. Thanks, G., Charlie, David, and Sandi C. Jr.

Hi J.,
I might be interested. We have three other dogs, and a ten year old daughter. We have a large back yard on a golf course (we take them out on the course for walks at night). If you still have him, is there a time we could come and see him this weekend?
Thanks,
