I just moved into this house and I cleaned the carpets before moving in, but my daughter has gotten this rash all over her arms and face. I thought it was just the carpet but nothing is helping it I don't know what to do. It doesn't bother her but it gets really red. What do I do?

What can I do next?

I have heard of carpet cleaners causing break outs and rashes in some children. If it continues consider it a possibility along with a long list of things you go through one at a time. Lotion, soap, detergent, air filters, bedding, fabrics, a new food...
And for anybody out there using benadryl, I know it does work but...
When my son was 5 we gave him benadryl for allergies and suddenly he started breaking out in hives. It took a good week of dosing him up with benadryl to relieve the hives before I asked the doctor if it could be the benadryl causing the outbreaks. Sure enough it was. The artifical coloring was most likely the cause(red # 5 or whatever they call it-it's in so many things).
The best thing you can do is log EVERYTHING you do.
Good luck!

Have you switched detergent or anything? I tried a new dryer sheet and my daughter was allergic. It could be anything in the house, not just the carpet...

Have you tried oatmeal baths and lotions? Have you taken her to the dr to see if she has allergies?

First, I would definitely give her some Benadryl and see if that makes the rash go away after 48 hours (you can call the pediatrician for the correct dosage, or call any local pharmacy & ask the pharmacist as well). I went around and around with my 2yr old son a few months ago with a random rash........it turned out to be "viral" & went away after about 10 days. Like your daughter, it didn't bother him and he had no fever, but it just looked bad. I would think that if it were the carpet, she would have it on her legs & feet as well..... It's probably just her little body's reaction to a virus and it will pass on its own. I would try the Benadryl & if she gets a fever of 101 or above at any time, I would call her doctor, just to be on the safe side. Good luck!

Hi, D.,
You didn't mention how long this has gone on, but it does sound like she has a virus or 'bug' of some sort. I would definitely contact your pediatrician to be sure. The oatmeal bath sounds like a good idea, too.
If it is not an illness, you could try cleaning the carpet with a different product, just in case it is that. Was it a professional cleaning machine or a your own? Maybe a milder cleaner or running the cleaner with just hot water would wash the other cleaning agent out.
Blessings,
S.
