We are looking to turn in our Hummer H3 and I was wondering if any of you wonderful mama's have owned a KIA Sorento or Sportage or any KIA for that matter. Whats customer service like, how does it drive, mpg, just the general info ups downs any info would be helpful. Oh yeah cargo space good bad? TIA I have looked online and it does get good reviews but I would like the honest day to day use opinions.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I guess I need to be more specific what year do you have, yes when KIA first hit the market what a POS, just like the neon, hhr, cobolt, outlook, pretty much any new models tend to be a piece of crap, recalls poorly made then they get their groove and things get ironed out.

I have a 2011 Sorento, and I LOVE it.
Cargo space is pretty good, and it does convert to the 3rd row of seats. Those seats are pretty small, but they work well in a pinch.

I've had it since last September, and bought it with 50 miles on it. We're up to 13000 now, and haven't had to repair anything yet.
I get about 25mpg on the highway with it.

Overall, I'm really pleased. We were deciding between the Kia and the Nissan Murano, and I decided on the Kia because it was cheaper and I could get more "bells and whistles" for the price.
Could not be happier so far with the choice.

DO NOT BUY A KIA!!! We have had the Sorento and now have the Sedona (van) and have had nothing but problems. For one thing, their batteries are patented so you can only replace them at the Kia dealer, not Auto Zone or somewhere CLOSE BY and cheaper! Our headlights constantly go out and stupid things just happen to it randomly. Like the doors won't open or the window, stupid stuff. And then you take it in and they can never find anything wrong! Ugh! So that's just our experience, I'm sure there are people who LOVE theirs but not us! Good luck!

I've never owned either, but we rented a Kia Sorento for a 12 hour trip with three small kids for a week. I believe it was a 2010 model. One of the things I like about it was the back seats. There were two rows and they could be folded down to extend the back/trunk area. The ride was smooth and comfortable. The only thing I'm unsure of is leg room in the back seats. There was enough room for the kids, but it looked like it could possibly be tight for an adult. Maybe you could try renting one of the vehicles you're interested in to get a feel for it? Good luck!

I had an '06 Sorento & absolutely adored it. The mpg was right around 23ish highway. I bought it new as a leftover once the '07's came out after longing for one from the first year they came out. Again, I loved, loved, loved that car. It was green with tan interior, no leather, no sunroof, just automatic with power windows & locks which was all the bells & whistles I needed. I couldn't really tell you about the service because nothing ever went wrong with it though she had 115,000 miles on her when she met her untimely demise. 2 winters ago my husband (a local Sheriff's deputy) was coming home from work through one of the hideous snow storms we had here in Delaware, hit a patch of black ice & the car rolled. Now, this is a guy who has been to umpteen driving courses so I know it wasn't the car or the operator, it was totally unavoidable. The car was totalled, but you know what? My husband walked away from the accident. I did take him to the ER later that night for a bump on the head, but that was due to the DVD player that belonged to the kids in the backseat coming up & getting him in the midst of the accident. So, they're safe as can be, too. In case I didn't mention this, I loved that car & I miss her terribly!!

i have a sportage. i love it. the backseat is a little small for 2 car seats and another person. actually, it's not gonna work. it would probably comfortably fit 2 average size kids/teens/adults. or 3 small kids. i gets good mileage to me. about 300-320 miles on a tank. trunk space is decent. drives awesome, very smooth. if i had to do it again, i would probably go a little bigger just for sitting space in the back though.

mine was a used 2005 when i got it. i replaced the battery from discount auto parts. walmart didn't carry them. i don't take mine in to the dealership to fix it because they are always overpriced. mine has 64,000 and only had to take it for a brake change once so far and change the tires. everything eles is great. no problems.

DO NOT BUY A KIA!!!
Everyone I know that's owned one has hated them! A salesman I know that works for them won't even buy one. They are cheap for a reason. You want a good vehicle go buy chevy, ford, dodge, my Durango is going on 10 years, hubby's f150 is going on 15 years, his camaro 30 years. They are all still going strong.

I have a 2011 Kia Sorento and LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just big enough, the Sportage would have been too small for us. It drives nice, I guess at first you notice more 'bump's, that's what hubs thought, but I didn't. We get like 30+ highway mpg. There have been some 'recalls' on it - NOTHING MAJOR or that would interfere w/ our safety. The dealership calls me and tells me about the recall and to bring it in and they will take care of it. I think it's happened 2 or 3 times it the year and a half we've owned it. Had 13miles on it when we drove it off the lot :-) Again, LOVE IT !! good luck w/ your car shopping!!!!!

My daughter had a used 02 KIA sportage with low mileage for a few years, and there were problems with the 4 wheel drive, brakes, door locks, and the back door hinged rusted. I would not buy one, not even brand new, even though the warranty is for a long time or a lot of miles. Service at three different dealerships in two different towns was bad, too. We'd get the run around or they didn't fix what they were supposed to and said they did, brought it back, was supposed to be fixed, wasn't. Had to live with it a while longer until we traded it in during the new car rebate a few years ago, and then it went to salvage according to the rebate rules.

My husband was a service writer for the butler kia service dept.
He said he would reccommend the sorento over the sportage. They have less problems and more cargo space.
Customer service is not so hot. Repair costs are pretty high and if you don't do your 30k and 60k services they will void your warranty and they run about 750 for 30k and 1200 for the 60k.
Hope this helps.
