Hey moms! I am going back to work after 2 1/2 years of staying home and I am so confused about childcare. I live in Lewisville and will be working in Grapevine. I have two boys a two year old and a five year old. Do I put my sons in a day care near my house or near my work? My 5 year old that will be starting Kindergarten in the fall (obviously near my house) so until then...he will be in child care too. I am just so confused on what to do, where to put them or even what Daycares to check out and avoid. MOMS HELP ME!

What can I do next?

As a mom who has had her son at different daycares and is starting kindgergarten this year, I would suggest one closer to your home. Since you live in Lewisville, Grapevine isnt all that far. It would be easier, especially if your 5 yr old ends up needing after school care for a few hours, that way his daycare would pick up from the school. Plus, if you decide to take a day off from work and need to do some things without the kids, errands, etc, easier to take them to a daycare closer. I've been in both situations, using a center close to work, or one close to home and definitely like the idea of it being closer to home.

Closer to home - with one going into school you will want to minimize the drop off and pick up routine, and having them closer to home will make that easier. Also, consider where your pediatrician is located - that can make a difference. Thirdly, having them closer to home makes it more likely that they will make friends in your neighborhood or close proximity, which is great for birthday parties, play dates, and having school friends.

Well, that is a tough one! I actually would say to put them in closer to work, for lots of reasons. Like another poster mentioned, you could visit for lunch, or parties etc. but also if your son was sick, or worse yet, got hurt, you could get to them quicker. That said, however, with school, it will have to be one that will pick him up from school, and unless you want to put them in 2 different day cares, you will have to choose closer to school. There is usually the option to have an extended day program at the school, however, I personally find them to be less supervised, and a little too overwhelming, particularly for the younger kids. Also, frequently with day care over the summer the kids go on lots of field trips, but I do not know about the ages that they take them etc, but take that into consideration when looking, as you mikght find that you prefer an in home day care until he is a little older. I wish you the best of luck, I am sure that this is a tough decision for you !! ~A.~

In my experience, I have always found that it is much better to have them closer to work. I enjoy being able to attend their programs and to have lunch with them sometimes. Having them close to work makes it possible to do that. However, I do agree that having the one in a daycare close to their school is a good idea for the very reasons posted. It makes it easier to have the school pick them up and so on.
