Hi, R.. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 26, and I'm now 30. The American Diabetes Association is a good organization or you can check with your local hospital. Also, I'm an RN and can try to answer any questions you might have.

R.,

I don't know of any online support groups, but your local hospital should be able to give you info and often have support groups. Another great resource for info is a nutritionist. They are trained to properly educate you and your family how to change your eating habits and answer so many questions. WHat you read and hear from everyone can be very confusing. A medical website that I often read and trust is www.mercola.com. Not sure what he has there about diabetes, but I'm sure there is some good info. Good luck to your family.

R., I understand exactly what you are going through. My husband was diagnosed with Type 1 2 years ago. He was 22. We were in the military at the time and they medically discharged him. It was a rough time, as my son was only 7 months old. I talked to my husband about this and he said that the American Diabetes Association has some very popular and very helpful discussion boards. He received a lot of good information and advice. Their website is diabetes.org. He said it sounds like he has what is called Type 1.5. It's between 1 and 2. If you like, send me a message and maybe we can hook them up, since my husband just went through this.
