Hi this is my second time posting the same problem and I still need help. Let me start by saying I do not have insurance or a lot of money. I need someone to help me with panic attacks. I am having the worst time driving and I really don't know what is wrong with me. I took some of the suggestions last time and had my meds switched from Abilify to Zoloft. I thought it was working but yesterday I got so panicked that I almost didn't make it to work. I go to MHMR in Oak Cliff and they are great but they don't do much in the way of counseling. I have been taking Zoloft for 2 weeks and it's not working. I think what I need is some intense therapy and not medicine. I am looking for a therapist that doesn't charge a lot and will be able to help me with this situation. Any advice will be helpful. I am scared and feel so hopeless. I don't think I will ever be right again. Thank you in advance. I need someone close to me. I live in the Oak Cliff area off of Loop 12 so the closer the better.

What can I do next?

Try Dallas MetroCare....they have multiple offices (just do a search) and are on sliding scale by income.........good luck to you!

Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers has an Oak Cliff location. I think they do mainly family therapy, but it's worth checking out. Their website is Salesmanshipclub.org. I deal with panic attacks & they are not fun. You will get through this and feel good again. Hang in there.

There are lots of therapists that will work on a sliding scale that depends on your income. I would talk to your GP and see if he knows of one. I'm sorry I don't know one off the top of my head, but all it takes is asking the question and one therapist who doesn't work on a sliding scale can refer you to one who does.

Good luck! I've been there and I understand.

Hello Steph, I have been where you are. I used to have the worst panic attacks that caused me to stay in my house and not leave for several months, it is scary and all my symptoms were so real, I had racked up several thousand in medical bills calling 911 thinking I was dying only to find out i was not, then I did not want tto tell anyone about them because I really thought i was crazy and losing my mind. I journaled alot which helps to write how I was feeling at that moment until it passed, I also used xanex for instant fixes and zoloft, doctors did find i had a medical reason for having them. Mitral valve Prolapse, not deadly but a valve would stick and send a message to my brain to release alot of serotonin whenever that happend, I could be dead asleep and sit strait up in the bed in a full panic.panic attacks are common in women and i am not sure you need theraphy to treat it, when you ahve one tell yourself you are having one and clock yourself, if you do not die in 20 minutes(because thats how I always felt)keep telling yourself you are okay.I do reccomend xanex(low dose) and do not take it all the time only when you start having a panic attack because it can be addicting.I still have some but never hardly take them anymore, I am not panic attack free i am just more aware that thats what it is and not a heart attack or worse.Just having a medicine that can take them away is a help in itself. you will fell more secure knowing if one comes on at work or driving or whatever that you can take a pill and it will disappear.hope this helps, I don't like promoting Drugs as a solution but sometimes its the only way to stop these panic attacks.

Dear steph, hi let me start by saying that i too have had panick or anxiety attacks. the first time i had one i had just satrted pharmacy tech. school i didnt know what was wrong with me and i went to the e.r at parkaland they gave me zoloft and it calm down that day but the next day i could not get up to go to school or to take care of my 2yr boy at that time. i would get them very often even when i was driving , but i didnt want to get medication beacause of how i felt and it didnt help. anyways i started looking for ways to make my panick attacks less intense and less frequent. the way i control them now is by taking walks , listening to music, i took boxing classes and praying to god. i still have them but, you need to find something that will control your panick attacks or calm you down . It's just stress and it is all in your mind. Try different things something will help you. i hope and pray that you get better . i know i'm not a therapist but, i have them too. i know you fell like nobody can help. like every panick attack is your last minute on earth . and like you want to run and not come back. but try to relax and to pray to god. god bless you
