I am not with an OB/GYN - used to be before I knew that I could actually be treated differently... I am with Barabara D'Amato - ValleyBirth Midwifery. But, I just switched health insurance carriers and I had two experiences at Abington (a first trimester screen and my 21 week sonogram)... Both times were the worst experiences I have ever had. This is my third baby (my other babes are 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 - so, no, you have not lost your mind) - and I regret that I had to waste my time going to that awful hospital.
I had to go to the Levy building for the ultrasounds - and when you walk in, they don't even look up... they just say "name." It was disgusting. I looked around the waiting room and wanted to scream out to all of these pregnant women - "it doesn't have to be like this!"
It is a purely business and insurance driven hospital. The doctors who deliver there work by the clock - you should find out what the c-section rate is there - it is like a busy restaurant that has to turn tables.
Treat yourself to better hands - find out what midwives are covered - my first baby was born at Doylestown hospital with Doylestown midwifery - a beautiful alternative... I switched because after realizing that giving birth was not a medical event for me, I decided to go to Barbara (who I don't need to wait for a "call back" -she and the other midwife, Malecia, is always there to talk to - and they actually know everyone who walks through their door!) - and birthed my second baby at home.
So, it all depends on where you feel the most comfortable, how you would like to be recognized and treated, and how you would like your and your future baby's journey to take place... and, of course, how accepting your insurance carrier is.
There is a saying, "A worm perfectly content in horseradish does not know about the juicey apple..."
Good luck with your decision!
