My coolpix point and shoot served me well for years and then I got another one. There are several versions in several price ranges. There are also some inexpensive cannon slr's out there as well.
I already bought a expensive camera. It is awful. It's a HP d3500 paid 300. It's the worst 300.00 I have spent on a camera. I would like a camera that is not expensive and takes good pictures. We had a family reunion and my pictures are horrible. So upset.

I have a nice Canon but 10 times out of 10... I get better pics with my iPhone.
I don't take the Canon with me anymore, I simply use my phone.
Honestly, I have not touched a camera since I've had my iPhone. Thera no comparison -- the quality is awesome.
First of all, if you are looking for a good camera, I have only ever seen professionals (people who run their own businesses with photography degrees) use Cannon or Nikon...really, they are amazing. I have a Nikon D5100 and it produces AMAZING quality pictures. We also have a D40 (my first DSLR) and you can tell a big difference, but it was a good start into that world of photography - for me as an amateur who has no desire to go professional.
I am also looking for a good point and shoot, so I don't have to lug my big camera and multiple lenses everywhere I go...but I haven't found one I like yet.
I have a Nikon point and shoot. Love it but in reality I use my phone. When I want great pictures of grand kids I go outside with my SLR and do a "photo shoot."
Sounds like you're sure the poor pictures are you phone's fault. Have you tried to figure out why this is? By knowing this you have a start to knowing what you want in a camera.
Is your current camera a point and shoot? If not, might it help to get help learning how to use it from a professional? The pictures may improve with more experience. I suggest that whether or not it's set to shoot or point and shoot it will help to take them and the camera to a camera shop to get help in learning what went wrong. They may be able to help you know what camera your style needs.
I bought a camera from a person that a photographer friend rrecommended. He talked with me and what I expected from a camera. At the time I wanted to be able to set the camera but also to point and shoot. It's been years ago and so that camera is no longer available.
I use my phone now. I can see right a way whether the picture is any good. A digital camera will do that too. That way you can change the light, the direction at which you're pointing, the composition etc. I suggest taking good pictures is more than the camera.
My son-in- law prints pictures by transferring them to his computer. You can do that with a digital camera toom
I have this one,

Canon D-20.
I also have my canon rebel. I love both for different reasons.
HP is a printer company, not a camera/lense company.
If you want a nice point n shoot camera, you need to stick with Canon, Pentex or Nikon. These companys have been making cameras for years.
My MIL has a kodak and the picture quality is awful to me.
Good luck.
