Hi W.,
I was not able to drink water throughout my whole second pregnancy, so I drink Perrier with Lime, and that was about all I could drink.
Good luck!

I'm six weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. I KNOW what I should be doing, but the thought of water just makes me even sicker. I know I should be drinking water, but I can't stand the thought of water or most food, for that matter. Any tips on how I can drink the necessary water?
Thanks!
After the recent post I wanted to update what happened .... thanks to all the replies!
It went away and water once again tastes very good and refreshing. I can't exactly remember how long it lasted, but I'm very relieved that water tastes good again. I'm now 8 months along and looking forward to my baby girl arriving healthy and not too soon.

I am 10 weeks prego with my second and I too am finding it harder to drink and eat what I know I am supposed to. For me I can do most drinks if they are really cold. I go to Jamba Juice at least once a week because I know I am getting some water (from the ice) and getting fruits too. If the cold idea seems to help you too, try making some juice and making home made popsicles. That way you are not eating all of the added food dyes that come in most grocery store brand popsicles.
I know that it is hard to drink enough water but rather than thinking about downing a whole bottle sip enough to wet the inside of your mouth and put the water bottle down. Keep taking little baby sips and you will drink more water than you realize.
Good luck! Hopefully your food/water adversions end next trimester!
Do you like Crystal Light? Try that. I could, and still do, drink so much of it daily. The fruit punch flavor tastes just like Kool Aid, I swear! lol
(The Kroger off brand tastes just the same and it's several dollars cheaper, too.) Feel better soon and congrats!
Any liquid counts as long as it doesn't contain caffeine. Try drinking it through a straw and really cold. Even just eating ice works... Sonic was the best ice when I was pregnant. Congratulations and good luck!
i love water infused with cucumber, if you like cucumbers you will like it. just take a cup (or a pitcher) & peel your cucumber & let it soak in your water, if you do it in your cup then you might stir it to get the flavor going (like 1/4 of a cucumber), but if you do it in a pitcher & let it set then you will get a good flavor (i use a whole cucumber). you can also use strawberries, grapes, kiwi etc. if you like lemon there is also true lemon, which is a powder that is easy to carry in your purse for when you're out.
Have you tried Sparkling Flavored Water? It's fizzy and tastes like a coke but simply water. The lemon/lime tastes alot like Sprite. They have tons of other flavors too.
I was the same way through my first, and some of my second trimester with this pregnancy (I'm now 26 weeks). Just try to drink as much as possible. I had really bad morning sickness, and had a hard time keeping anything down. Sipping ginger ale did help, and drinking water while nibbling on saltines helped me, too. I also heard that drinking peppermint tea was supposed to help, so I tried it and it really did work (I'm not a big tea person, but it helped calm my stomach so I tolerated it). If you're really concerned and can't keep even water down, talk to your dr. I knew someone whose sister had to get iv fluids to prevent dehydration b/c her morning sickness was so bad she couldn't drink or eat anything. It's so important to stay hydrated, especially in this heat. Hope you start feeling better soon!!
Hello W.,
Congratulations! now on the water issue... have you tried different bottled water? they also have some with infused flavors (check it out at sprouts or wholefoods).
I notice I drink more water when I get certain brands of bottled water --even chocolate/mint flavor!--.
filtered water I take one or to sips. go figure! I bet that you're probably not liking the smell of the water (due to your hormones giving you a super sense of smell) ...oh I remember those days!
I'd stay away from anything with artificial sweeteners.
do you like tea? do you like soups?
good luck! ~C.~
My favorite when I was morning sick was icy-cold cranberry juice and seltzer water. If you're near a Tom Thumb, they have seltzer water in cans which were very convenient. Also, I think the 100% juice blends taste better--less fake sweet taste. I definitely agree that whatever you drink will probably be more appetizing cold (although anything's possible). I'm 30 weeks right now and could chew Sonic ice by itself all day. You can actually buy bags from them and take them home with you!
I get a large water with lime at sonic all the time for about 35 cents. Not sure if it's the lime, the ice, or the fact that it feels like a treat, but that gets me to drink water :)
Watermelon is really sweet right now & is great ice cold-it's mostly water.
Good luck to you & congrats on baby #2!
Just get through the early yuckies as best as you can. You'll only make yourself feel worse if you try to force yourself to have something. Eat & drink what you can; your baby will be fine.
During one of my pregnancies I found that lemon helped w/ the nausea. So I added lemon juice to water & decaf tea. Everytime I or my husband stopped at a convenience store, we'd take a handful of lemon juice packets. :)
I've found that in addition to ginger ale, I can tolerate ice-cold diluted pink lemonade.
If you haven't already, try Sea Bands. My husband found them at Wal-Mart and after two weeks of misery, I'm finally feeling some relief from morning sickness.
In a prenatal class we took for when we were pregnant with our first, they suggested juice or Kool aide. They warned against it if you were diabetic. They said that the extra sugar may cause some women to gain extra pounds too. But they also mentioned that this was an alternative to get the necessary fluids...apparently the idea of water is an issue for a lot of pregnant women.
Thank HEAVENS, I didn't think I was the only one, but I was begging to think that the dr. was going to think I was nuts if I said that I couldn't drink water. So far I have been trying to go with hot tea and things like that. I have read that pregnancy creates odd tastes in our mouths, I feel that drinking water just makes the taste worse, and then just makes me sick. This is more of a thank god i am not alone than ... a helpful hint.
Hopefully this will not last a very long time for you.
The Sonic idea is a great one.
Other things that come to my mind is sipping on jello before you pour it into a mold, ice pops,
Best wishes!
