I think Rainy Dayz and Rainy Sky sound like the names of strippers. I think most people are going to find them rather cheesy. But it doesn't matter what most people think (although for the sake of the child you might want to consider the connotations that come along with a name). It matters what you think. If you love the name, then choose it.
Perhaps you could name her Lorraine and call her Rainy for short.

Will you forgive another post after so many?
With names, I always would ask: How will this name work not just when she's a cute baby or toddler but when she is....
A teenager subject to a lot of judgements and comments from peers?
A college kid writing her first resumes?
A young professional handing out her first business cards?
A middle-aged professional meeting contacts for the first time, or seeing her full name engraved on her firm's brass door plaque?
A dignified grandmother?
A Nobel Prize recipient, hearing her full name called from the podium as she goes up to receive her prize?
If you think Rain Bo, or Rainy Dayz, works in all those contexts, and she won't mind explaining it (because frankly, she will have to, though if she loves her own name then she won't mind explaining it) then go for what you like. Seriously, do. But just think through whether any name(s) you choose will wear well at all ages and all stages and whether it will have any impact on her being taken seriously later in her life. I'm not saying Rain would be a problem that way--I like it. But I don't think that pairing it with a middle name like Dayz or Bo or Sky would necessarily work at all ages.

If you really like the name "Rain"... then name her Rain.
WHY name her "Rainy"?
That is a negative sounding name and she WILL get teased... and then she will have to explain to EVERYONE why her parents named her "Rainy." Which is an Adjective. She is not 'rainy' for example.
It may sound cute, to you,... but a person actually being named "Rainy" to me, IS guaranteeing that your child WILL be teased.
She WILL be teased.
Do you really... want her to be teased, all her life? Just because she is named "Rainy..."?
I know a girl named "Rain." She is a great/smart/mature girl. 10 years old. She matches her name.
I would NOT use the "adjective" form of rain, to name a child. Not "Rainy."
I frankly think, naming a child "Rainy Dayz" or "Rainy Sky"... is really really... setting up your child to be teased and ostracized. And I don't think, a parent would want their child teased, nor do it to them, on purpose.
Would you want to be named, YOURSELF- Rainy Dayz or Rainy Sky? Or Humid Sun or Sunny Dayz or Stormy Cloudz or Frozen Snow or Frosty Blizzard or Thundery Clouds or Snowy Sleet?
C'mon.. its really a not good name for a kid.
And imagine your child in college or having to get a job....?
Can you imagine, what connotations that sets your child up for... per getting respect anywhere?

I like Aurora Rain... very pretty... I think Rainy Sky and Rainy Dayz will be names that will probably be teased (honest opinion- not meant to offend). Rainy Sky sounds very... um "hippy-ish", and I would be worried she might not be taken seriously with a name like that...
I do like the name "Rain"- you could also spell it "Rayne" or "Raine" if you wanted...
You could also use names that mean rain or something similar like these:
Ara ... "Brings rain." ...
Jorah ... "First rain or autumn rain." ... at the end of the drought season with the return of the rain ...
Liana ... Name of a vine common to tropical rain forests ...
Noelani ... Noe (noh-AY) means "mist, misty rain".
Raina ... Modern use also refers to rain from the sky.
Rima ... Rima was an elusive maiden of the South American rain forest who spoke the language of animals and birds.
Tulia ... which refers to a heavy rain or downpour ...
Acquanetta ... "Water." ... which is Latin for "water" ... [3]
Brenna ... "Little drop of water; raven or black-haired." ... [9]
Brooke ... "Water, small stream." ... [8]
Clytie ... Mythology: a water nymph in love with Apollo ...
Lake ... Geography name for an inland body of water. [2]
Lana ... (Hawaiian) "afloat; calm as still waters" ... [4]
Lynn ... possibly of Old English and Gaelic origin, meaning "lake", "waterfall" or "pool", and probably would have been given to a family living near such a body of water.
Naida ... "Water nymph."
Nebraska ... "Flat water." ...
Nereida ... Nerida is an Australian aboriginal name for water lily or blossom
Nixie ... "Water sprite." ...
Ondine ... Mythology: Undine is the spirit of the waters ...
Talise ... "Lovely water."
Tallulah ... "Leaping water." Related to the Choctaw word for water, "oka" ...
Undine ... Mythology: name of the spirit of the waters. Literary ...
Yara ... "Water lady; small butterfly." ...
Zarya ... Mythology: Zarya is a water priestess and protector of warriors.
all very interesting names... of course if you LOVE rain, don't change it just to apease people. I think you will be safe with a name like Rain, if you make it's "pair" name something either more "common" or something that is less of a "word" name. I think aurora is a great alternative to day or dayz.
Or do a translation of the word Rain... like
Ame (japanese)
Sade (finnish)
Or a similar word like "water"
Mizu (japanese)
Do what feels best to you and your family. Take heed of people's advice, but don't let them keep you from picking a name that you truly adore! Good Luck!

Oh gosh,
PERSONALLY, I am a big fan of understated/layered names.
For example, instead of "Defender" as the first name, I'd choose Alexander (defender of the people). Instead of "Tree", maybe Aila (oak). Instead of Rainy Dayz, I might look at a more understated name. (What I am trying to say. Am I trying to say that she is a "blessing from above"? Am I alluding to the comfort we find on a rainy day?)
I prefer Rainn or Rayne to Rain.
*I* would stay away from Dayz (for two reasons, one the spelling reminds me of a text message, secondly the word is a lot like Daze, for which *I* have negative connotations.)
Aurora is a gorgeous word (and term). It might be tricky to say, for a small child.
*FOR ME* Aurora Rain is beautiful, but doesn't sound like a person's name, so much as a product name (like a body wash).

OK only because you asked...as others have said, Rainy Sky and Rainy Dayz and any other variation on Rainy are just plain awful. Really - people will think that you were high when you named her. Really.
Rain in and of itself is a lovely name...you could go with Raina, Raine, Rayna etc. but please not Rainy.
Aurora Rain sounds pretty but you will have then named your child after two things that sort of deal with weather (Aurora means "dawn" and then there are the Northern Lights, aurora borealis). That's not a bad thing, but something to be aware of and make sure you like the idea of.

My 2 cents is to give your child a name they will not be tormented their entire life over.
Think about your names and think to yourself...Rainy Sky...will that set her up to be teased to DEATH? Yep. Is Rainy Dayz worse? Yep. Let me say this as nicely as I can without hurting your feelings...the names sound like a bad trip at Woodstock (no, I'm not that old).
Right or wrong, people make assumptions of people they haven't meant simply based on their names.
I hope you choose wisely.

What does it matter what other people think?
I would suggest you look at her life in 20 years - let's say she's an executive - do you really think that Rainy Sky is going to sound professional? My personal opinion NO.
I also firmly believe that as nasty as kids can be - the playground and school will be nothing but torment for her as kids can just be plain mean.
But it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks - ONLY what you and your husband decide....

I actually like the name Rain - but maybe with a spelling variation - Rayn - or Rayne.
I would steer away from Rainy Sky or Aurora Rain. One of those names, but not a combination of two of them. Honestly I find them too contrived.
Maybe Rain and a more traditional middle name. I suggest that because it will give her an option when she is an adult. I know several woman with unusual first names and more traditional middle names, that chose to use the middle name for professional purposes...it hard to take an attorney named Sunday seriously :)
Bottom line - this is YOUR child and you should pick the name that you like the best.
God Bless

In my opinion, your child will be teased throughout childhood with a name like Rainy Days or Rainy Sky. Kids are mean, especially when they can latch on to a name and use it for laughs.
I suggest you use Rain or Rainy as an official nickname. You can name her something like Rachel, Reagan or Racquel but call her Rainy. Or, pair Rain with a strong traditional name and use it as a middle name, like Amelia Rain (Aurora is pretty but it isn't a strong traditional name. Maybe that is why people don't care for it?)

I think the Rainy Dayz and Rainy Sky sound a little like hippy names - and like people will think you or your children smoke weed.
I think that Aurora Rain is very pretty - also a little love child=ish, but very pretty.
I also like the option of giving one unusual name and one conventional name, so that, if your daughter wants to pick later, she can. For example, Michelle Rain. You can call her Rain or Rainy, but if she ever gets tired of people saying "What an unusual name" she can go by the other name.

Well at least you now know what people will think of her name in the future. The comments from friends and family and now here on the web is a heads up..
Each time she says her name or it is announced, the things people are bringing up right now are exactly the comments that will continue all through her life.
If you cannot take the questioning, the comments and the attitudes, then do not do it. If you are willing to ignore it and teach your child to ignore it go for it.
So do not complain in the future about it.

I used to know a woman named Penny Candy - and it just sounded so tacky, ugh, ick. Why couldn't they name her Penny Lynn or something like that.
My opinion is give her the unique name, but don't pair it with something else to make it cutesie...

Naming your baby has been such a controversial topic for so long, but I think that nowadays (and in the near future) more and more people are leaning towards unusual names and shying away from the classic names.
I am one of those people. I have four year old girl/boy twins that I named Aurora Skye and Skylar Raye. When I named my daughter Aurora Skye it was because I was born in Alaska, so I named her after the northern lights (our last name is Burleson so it was kind of like Aurora Borealis). But then when we were in the hospital a nurse was humming to her and when I asked what it was said "Oh I'm singing 'Aurora's Theme' from Sleeping Beauty". I had no idea at the time that Sleeping Beauty's real name was Aurora and I certainly didn't name her after that. But alas, within the four short years of my daughter's life, Disney has made a HUGE deal of all of the princesses, and now Sleeping Beauty stuff is everywhere. So that is what everyone connects her name with (it doesn't help that she is blond haired and blue eyed like SB). But I do still really really really LOVE her name! It suits her perfectly. And I actually have heard it a few other times since she was born, so it is becoming more and more popular.
My mom's name is A***a Rae, mine is A. Rae, but I just couldn't see naming my daughter Aurora Rae. So I guess I really lucked out when I had two kids at once so that my son's middle name could be Ray. But again, since I love the unusual names, I had to go with an unusual spelling and put e's on the ends of their middle names. Hence Skylar Raye and Aurora Skye.
But like I said before, uncommon names are becoming more common, so if you want to name your child Rain, you go right ahead and do it. Or if the pressure from outsiders is too much name her Lorraine, and call her Rainy for short. People will call her whatever you and your husband call her every day no matter what it says on her birth certificate. It is the same principal as someone named Elizabeth going by Libby or William going by Bill.
And if she gets old enough (or turns 18 and you no longer have a legal say) and she really hates her name, it is easy to go down to your local courthouse and have her name changed to whatever she decides. I had a friend growing up whose name was Sunshine Day. We called her Sunny and then in 6th grade, she told her mom that she didn't like it, so her mom took her down to the courthouse and had it changed to Jessica and that's what she's been ever since.
Also, you have to think about where you are going to live if you name your child something weather-related. Naming my daughter Aurora probably wouldn't have worked out as well if we still lived in Alaska. You live in Port Orchard... one of the rainiest places in the Pacific Northwest. Even though people live here, they still hate the rain, so they might form a negative opinion of your daughter before they've even met her.
One last thing... I know that I'm all about unusual names and different spellings, but if you do choose to name her Rainy Dayz, please don't use a z. Rainy Days is cute, Rainy Dayz is not. As a mother of children with unusual names, I would not shy away from someone's resume if their name was Rainy Days, or not hire an attorney because her name was Aurora Rain, or not have a surgery because the doctor's name was Thisis Gonnahurt. A name is just a name and what matters is what she makes of herself.

Rayne Gabrielle
Rayne Isabella
Rayne Angelina

My advice? Don't talk about your baby names to anyone, even family. We found someone ALWAYS had a negative comment about every name we mentioned. Once the baby is born and the name has been given, people tend to not make any comments other than, "oh what a pretty name". It's kind of comical, but that's how it seems to happen.

I'm not going to tell you what to name your daughter. Name her whatever you want. However, I wish more people would take into consideration how the name will fit them as an adult and consider what their expectations are for when their child is a grown up. How it will sound when they are named as a justice on the Supreme Court or how it will look on their diploma from medical school. In your case, I think Rayna would make more sense then just Rain or Rainy. Aurora could be shortened to Rory as a nickname, and I like Jane better as a middle name with it. I agree with some others that names like Rainy Dayz make her sound like a stripper, or a cartoon character, and are most likely going to result in her getting teased at school. Rayne Bo is just plain silly.
I knew a girl once whose parents had decided to name her Bambi. She hated it - she had a really hard time getting anyone to take her seriously.

Aurora Raine.... you could call her Rory for short,,and its cute, and fun, and as she gets older she can go with whatever she likes. Odd and unusual names cause people to take a second look, and snicker. Dont think anyone wants that to happen to their sweet little baby. But a lot of people go with strange names, or names that make a phrase. I went to school with Brian Bryan and Penny Nickols. Not that odd but different. The top name that gets second looks was the neatest guy you could ever meet. Grew up dispite his name and is a successful adult. Not sure what his parents were thinking when they named him Frosty Winter Knight. And I am not kidding.
You have to expect a few odd comments when you name a kid something out of the norm. I didnt think I picked a strange weird name when we had our daughter, but the morning she was born I called a friend to tell her Id given birth. She asked what we named our baby girl and when I said "Kelsey" she replied, "ewww like Elsie the COW?" That hurt and Ive never forgotton how rude it was. So, Id be careful what you name a baby because someone is going to find a way to turn it around and make it the subject of teasing and laughter.

I tend to lean towards traditional names (my baby girl is Sarah), so we probably come very different places in regard to baby names.
Anyway, I think Rain can be a pretty name. BUT, you need to pair it with a more common middle name or else I think it will sound very hippy-ish. I think Rainy Sky or Rainy Dayz will make it difficult for her growing up.
Aurora Rain is pretty or just pair Rain with something common and I think she will be happier in the long run.

Imagine her trying to get into law school or med school, or filling out a job appolication at a bank.
Personally I would spell it with a Y and pair it with a strong feminine name,

Rayne Katherine
Rayne Elise
Margaret Rayne--call her Peggy Rayne?

The problem with asking people's opinion is that you get what you ask for. I personally think Rain or rainy in particular is kind of a negative sounding name, but if you like it, keep it to yourself until after the baby comes, then noone will talk bad about her name.
My dad didn't care for the name we had chosen for a girl, but when Adenne was born, he couldn't care less what her name was, he was wrapped around her finger.
best of luck!!!
I was just reading some of the other responses and it made me think of something, I do like Aurora Rain by the way. It's Rainy... that is more negative to me. I like what the mom said about staying away from sentance names Rainy Dayz, etc. I know someone Named Rivers Drown...how odd...you don't want your daughter to be teased. I have a very unusual name (well not anymore but when I was growning up), I swore I would never do that to my daughter, then I did just that. :) she loves beening the only girl Adenne that she knows though. :)

You are the ones who get to name your child-so stop asking other people for their opinion and then you won't be upset when they say something you don't like. However, you might want to consider how that name will be perceived as she grows up and how it can be spelled or misspelled. How will other children perceive her name--anything there they could make fun of? How will that name be perceived when she is a teenager or if she decides to become a professional (example an attorney or a judge)?? Does her name sound like a commercial product? Ok, you asked --I think Rayne or Raine would be much better than Rainy (weather term) and I would stay away from Sky and Dayz. Other kids would make fun of her for a name like Rainy dayz (days). Good luck with your new daughter.

I have to ask WHY you like Rain/Rainy. Rainy Sky and Rainy Dayz are so... well, to be frank they sound like joke names. I'm sorry if that hurts your feelings, but you asked and I hope that means you're looking for honest responses. It's so bad I wondered if you're a troll.
Names are not about the parents. Names are not supposed to be a reflection of the parents or a billboard for parents' causes and a chance to be cute and creatively yooneek. You have to think about more than just the possible positives but also the negatives about word names.
Rain on its own? Eh, you can work with it. Rainy Dayz or Rainy Sky? Joke.
So here's my actual help so that I don't look like a complete b!tch and a half.
Aurora is a lovely, lovely and legitimate name. You can get the nickname Rory out of it (although I personally detest that nickname).
There's also the very pretty and legitimate Reina. In Spanish Reina means "queen." It's also the Yiddish form of Katherine and it means "clean, pure." It's pronounced "REY-nuh."
Aurora Reina or Reina Aurora would be quite lovely, I think, and very unusual. It also would take you out of Corny Town and into Elegant Ville.
EDITED TO ADD: Also, please consider that Rain/Rainy is very, very babyish and childish. Your cute, adorable sweet baby will spend most of her life as an adult. The name you chose for your baby has to wear well for all of adulthood right through to being an elderly great-grandma. :-) Don't make her have to consider spending a few hundred dollars as an adult to get a name change so that employers will take her seriously.

Oh my goodness, I'm going to be the 100th response to your post, but I must.
My nine-year-old daughter's name is Raine. This spelling is a traditional English-origin name that means "queen". Her middle name is Ruthanne in honor of my late mother. Her last name is very English, also. We told very few people the name before she was born, but now get very positive responses to her name. It is unique and pretty and fits her so well.

I think it's not such a bad idea to read through the general responses and pay attention. If a lot of people are negative, you may want to shy away from names that seem to generate negative attention (you wouldn't want your child to experience teasing or put-downs simply because you couldn't resist the unusual name).
I personally think Rainy Sky or Rainy Dayz would be names that would be ridiculed by classmates. I think if you love the name Rain... then go with your second option... Aurora Rain. Most people will never know about or care about the middle name... yet it will still be important to you and your family... I think you could even name her Rain or Rainy (I'd spell it Raine or Raini or Rainee) and pair it with a typical girls' name for her middle name.
Last of all, I would say that if you feel very strongly about it, then do what seems best. Who knows... maybe Rain or some version of it will someday be a more common name even though most of us have never heard it used as a name. I had picked out my daughter Ella's name years before she was born... I had never known anyone named Ella. Some people in my family were negative and thought it was old fashioned. But I loved it and had no idea it was going to be a big comeback name and lose its outdatedness. My baby's middle name is Pierce... before he was born I felt it was too unusual to use for a first name... but I'm glad it's part of his name and it has really grown on me. I think it would have been fine to go with it for his first name if I hadn't been such a chicken! I also think that uncommon names are more "normal" than they used to be so that there are fewer negative effects associated with an unusual name.
How's that for some fence-sitting and maybe contradictory advice?

Personally, I think Rainy Sky and Rainy Dayz sounds quite ridiculous. Just like if I were a boy, my parents thought Justin Thyme (Just-in-time) would have been great...not really! Anyways...I do like Aurora Rain. Remember, this little girl is going to have to be called this the rest of her life. Make it a name that she won't be embarrassed about later.
As a side note, we have friends naming their little girl Steele Loren (yes, Steele is pronounced like the metal). I also think that's a little nuts, but again, their daughter will be the one who has to deal with it later, not them...

I grew up with a "different" or "unique" name, and while I'm glad I wasn't just another Jennifer, I would still prefer to have a name that most people have heard of.

When it comes to unique names . . . the kids on the playground aren't the ones you have to worry about. My kids get more negative feedback from adults then they do kids. It's become a gauge for me on whether I can be friends with someone. Make a negative comment about my kids name? Hmmm, I pretty much know you are a closed minded bigot. Personally I love the name Aurora Rain.

However, when we were trying to come up with a name that was not way out there but not so common, one thing we did was to imagine an 80 yr old woman with that name.
We also put a lot of thought into the name as our daughter would age... how would it look professionally, how would it be perceived professionally, and what would it sound like 80 yrs from now?
We tried to find a classic name we liked that was not on the top 10 or 50 list at the time.
Maybe some people are looking at it from that perspective vs what the name sounds like and means to you.

I have to tell you, my first name is Gerri. I was named after my dad - but thankfully not a jr, b/c then i'd be Jerry Sherwood - instead I'm G.. I resented the fact that I could never ever find anything w/my name on it growing up and it still bothers me that people expect a boy when they call out Gerri, but it's the name my parents gave me. I've learned to be proud of it, and being named after my dad means a lot to me. My oldest is Samantha - she was almost named Sydney after a red headed psycho on Melrose & our youngest's name means a bundle of hay (Haley) - or a comet - but what does it matter what a name means or reminds people of. I think the important thing is what you like because you will be the one doing all of the calling....won't you??? When my mom died unexpectedly 3 wks before my oldest was born we changed then name we chose to Samantha Joyce so she could have my mother's middle name and I am asked why we did that. Why we would want to name her after her dead grandmother she never met, you can't make everyone happy all of the time! Just make yourself happy and do what you want! Best of luck to you and you baby!

You might be getting negative responses because the names Rainy Dayz and Rainy Sky sound gimmicky, like you're trying to be clever/funny. Similarly, I have an aquaintance that named her daughter Holly Woodward (yes, on purpose).
I think naming a baby is a BIG responsibility, but ultimately up to you and your husband. If you really love a name, then use it. Just remember that your *child* is the one that's going to have to LIVE with it!

Ah, this is a great forum for just such questions! Versus... getting the opinions of those closest to you who might say yeah or nay which you will remember and attribute to them for years to come. Ultimately the naming thing will rest on your shoulders. I actually love Aurora Rain and think I would steer a bit away from other names that someone could poke fun at later in life. If you have a child who is shy, she may feel emotionally beat up having to explain and defend her parents' choice of names. I knew a lovely girl named Penny Nichole Dollar once. She was adorable and very self-confident. She also was a cheerleader and had many friends. She did tire of defending her name, but she took it in stride and worked around it. Another girl whose last name was Krapz had a very hard time in life with her name and asked every teacher to avoid saying her last name with her first in class. Just a thought... best of luck with your naming venture!! Take care!

Wow, you've gotten a lot of responses already.
I think Aurora Rain is beautiful.
I know a Ranee (pronounced like rainy), and I never really connect her name with precipitation unless I hear her called by her nickname "Rain", and she seems to love her nickname (she's a young adult now).
If you are set on the name "Rain" or "Rainy" I think you might consider alternate spellings.
But really, no matter which names you love, there are going to be people who love it too and people who don't. Even the most basic names. That's why we decided to not share our chosen names early.
I mentioned to a co-worker once that I was thinking about the name "Anne" because that's my mom's name. She said right off that she thought it was terrible choice. That was the end of it--never shared our true name considerations again.

The truth of the matter is that there will always be people who like or don't like the name, now and after the baby is born. You cannot please everyone, it will never happen. Why would you care what others think, anyway? You made the baby, you get to name her. Everyone will love her when she's here, whether or not they care for the name.
So, my advice is to stop discussing possible names if you don't want negative feedback. Just say you are not naming the baby until it's born. If you decide to continue to tell people the names, then you'll need to stop taking it so personally & develop a thicker skin.
Another thing, since you are wanting to use a non-traditional name, I think it goes with the territory, honestly. I hate to say it, but I don't care for the names, either. They sound like something a 5 year old might name a pet or Bratz doll, honestly. When I see those names, it makes me think the parent might be very uneducated or young & I would feel bad that the kid was named that. Do you want your child to be teased or isolated because of her name? Kids can be mean. Like I said, everyone will have an opinion, and what you name your kid is your choice, BUT you also might want to take into consideration what people are saying about the names. There may be some truth to it & people may be just trying to help you out.

I personally like Aurora Rain the best out of your choices listed, it is pretty and unique. Rainy Dayz reminds me of a "cholo" name ( sorry, but its true. Sad Eyez, anyone?) If you chose that name, please don't use a Z. How about rainy spelled Rainey? Rainey Days, Rainey Sky/Skye, Aurora Raine/Rayne.. You can change the spelling up a bit, and still keep it pretty and feminine without being oddball. Someone mentioned Summer Raine, thats nice also.
Congratulations on your new daughter!

Contrary to a lot of people's thoughts...please don't create a fake spelling for your child's name, whatever you decide to name her. I grew up with an unusual first name, middle name, and last name. While I loved them, after 20 years of having to say my name twice or three times to every single person I ever was introduced to (or when I answered the phone at work), plus spell my name for them EVERY SINGLE TIME it gets pretty tiring - I am also a professional artist so finally I had to change my last name to something simple to spell for stage introductions. It is so pleasant to not have to spell my last name for everyone now. And, 90% of the time people are going to only hear - not see - your daughter's name, and they will assume it is just "Rain", meaning, it will always be spelled wrong if you make up your own spelling.

It may or may not be your only chance to name a baby. In the end you are the one to decide of course, but these are my thoughts.... I love original names, I picked 3 amazing first and middle names for my kids - and my kids are always being complimented on their names. I like very unique and original but not weird. Some celebrities name their children things that seem odd - Apple ? Your choices are odd because you are making a sentence and your kid will be mocked - instead of Rainy Dayz or Rainy Sky, you should use one of those names and pair it with something that has no relation. For instance Rainbow Rose or Sierra Skye or Summer Rain -- you get the point. Don't do Rainy Dayz, that is almost as bad as a guy I heard who was called Sandy Beach..... Yes, its true. Pick something that doesn't sound like it necessarily goes together in a descriptive sense....that will help you in coming up with something that is unique yet not ridiculous.
I would NOT go with Aurora - because my daughter has a friend with that name and NO one can pronounce that name, its a real tongue twister, pick a name that is easy to pronounce. Also, when I hear the name 'Aurora' I see some old lady, like a witch - not a good connotation. Another tip - if you are picking 'modern' names pair them with modern middle names - having an older name with a modern name sounds strange, like your example of Aurora Rain is old and new.
By the way my daughter's middle name is Raine -- it means 'queen' in french. I would pick names that have some meaning too, and do not spell the names in an incorrect manner (like dayz - if you do that you sound like a rapper or something) this is your child's name forever, not only as a baby but when they are 55 years old - no rapper or misspelled names, sounds uneducated).
Check out some sites for some ideas (also check the meaning of the name, you don't want the name having some bad meaning you were unaware of)
One of my students is Rainy. I love the name you picked. =D

I think Rain (however you choose to spell it) is beautiful. That is a name I considered for my daughter. I also considered Aurora bc we lived in Alaska at the time and I think it's a pretty name. But EVERYONE who heard the name Aurora told me they thought it was too much of a hippy name. I still think it is pretty. I think Aurora Rain sounds nice together. Everyone has their own opinions on names. Some people only like regular names and there is nothing wrong with that. Others like unique names or names with interesting meanings. I am one of these....I love beautiful sounding names with nice meanings. Once your baby is born no matter what her name, your friends and family will love her AND her name bc it is hers. My mom hated my son's name (Torsten, an old Nordic name meaning son of Thor. My husband does lightning research and we are of scandinavian descent and loved it!). Hated it. But when he was about 2 she told me she totally changed and she just ADORES the name Torsten and thinks is is the most perfect name for our son. So, my advice is to not listen to others and go with what name YOU love.

When it comes to naming questions, I say choose what you like and don't tell anyone until baby is born and the birth certificate is signed. Then noone can comment on it and discourage you.
That said, since you asked, I have always had trouble with people creating names from objects that are already in existance like say, "apple". All I can think of is Really??? An apple is a fruit you eat, not a person. You really wanted to give the rest of the kids on the playground that ammo?? And I was worried about a name that resulted in the initials SLT (aka slut, slot, etc you get the idea...)!
I will say that in this case, using "rain" as a middle name is not too bad and I do like Aurora as a first name. Just be careful about the Sleeping Beauty reference.
Best wishes for you and your little one!!

How about Raina? Or maybe Summer Raine or Misty Raine? It's still a 'nature' sounding name but I really prefer traditional names for myself so I'm not really one to give advice. Just remember, names like this this, while different or unique, may cause the child to get made fun of so you really need to put the child's needs before yours. To be different & unique is great but just think about how your child will get along w/a name like that. But all feelings aside, if you're adament on either name, I'd rule out Rainy Days, that's just way too out there for a child's name but that's just me. I'd vote for Misty Raine or even Summer Raine, it's new, different & still has the nature theme too it & plus Misty or even Summer isn't all that different and is even pretty when you put either one w/Raine. Hope you don't find my reply insulting or anything, it's not intended! Just giving you some thought to how other kids may react to your choice of names for your child once she goes to school. Best wishes!

I know someone named Rainy. I actually like her name. I don't think of a rainy day when I think of her. That's just my personal opinion.
Speaking of personal opinions, people always have them regardless of what names you toss around for your kids. There will always be someone who doesn't like a name for some reason. It reminds them of something or someone they don't care for or they knew someone with a dog named that.
If you're having trouble coming up with a name, sometimes it best not to get too many conflicting opinions. I think it just makes it harder.
That said, you really have to think of how a name will suit someone or affect them when they are older. I always imagined how a name would sound at my kids' high school and college graduations. And, of course yelling at them in the years leading up to those things.
:)
I don't think Rain is that strange a name. It's not far from Jane or S..
Of course, you should name your child what you want, but keep in mind if you're getting comments now, the child will likely get them too. Kids can be mean.
I wish you the very best and hope you find a name that suits your child perfectly.

Aurora for the uninitiated is a genuine name listed in a multitude of baby books. I have known over my life time an adult Aurora and a small child. Both female.
Ignore what other people say. If Frank Zappa could stick his kid with Seven for a name you are entitled to use one that is a known and factual name.

Love Aurora Rain, LOVE IT! I agree, I would skip the day/sky since it's so 'theme-y'.

If you like Rain I would say just stick with it.
I have 2 friends named Rain and Raine and I named my daughter Raina. I like all 3 variations. BUt if you really like another name, just use it.
