Hi my newborn has colic and I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what I can do to relieve him? I have 2 other children but never had that problem with them so I have no experience with this.

What can I do next?

Hyland's Homeopathic Colic Tablets are wonderful. You should be able to find them in any drug store. Lavender oil (a couple of drops rubbed into the pajamas) can help soothe a baby and make him or her sleepy. My grandmother recommends a hot water bottle on the belly, but you can also microwave a cotton sock full of uncooked rice for three-five minutes, wrap it in a towel, and use it like a heating pad on the belly. It will stay warm for hours. Those are a few things to keep baby comfortable. Hope that helps!

Are you sure it's colic? My daughter had a very hard time crying and spitting up alot for months and everyone said it was colic. I tried all the recomended remedies but nothing worked then the Doc said well she might have reflux?... And within 24hrs of receiving liquid zantac she was like a new baby. See what your Doc thinks. Just a suggestion I'm sure you will get many. Good Luck!!

my doctor put my five month old daughter on somethng called hyoscyamine for her colic. It has helped tremendously. It gives her almost instant relief. You might ask your doctor about it

I have two daughters, one 14 and one 6. I was lucky to only have this problem when my 14 year old was a newborn.

What worked the best for her, was that when she was colicy and crying, I would lay her down on her stomach, across my thighs, on my lap. While she was in this position i would rub her back in a way as to trace her lower bowel, not hard but just a light rub in an almost circular motion. This method was given to me by our Chiropractor, who was also an MD, in Watertown NY where my ex-husband was stationed at the time.

I know that this helped to relieve her gas, which he pointed out was a big symptom with colic. In addition to this, she did receive treatment from him.

Later- in case this ever comes up- when she was 4 and we were in Germany she developed chronic constipation. Probably induced by environment and stress, as her father was deployed to Bosnia most of the time we were over there (a situation I know you are familiar with). When we returned to the States, I took her again to the same Dr. and he adjusted her, and she never had that problem again.

FYI- there are Chiropractors in Colorado Springs who treat babies and children. I see one now who has helped my younger daughter with asthma and allergies. Just a thought.

Hi M.,

Keeping the baby swaddled can be a big help. Noise is also a good one (white noise, which is noise such as water running or the sound of AC or even soothing music). I would also recommend a baby sling because babies with colic tend to need to feel mommy by them all the time.

M.,
Try this online help site fussybabyhelp.com and type in Colic in the search area. This site should be very helpful to you and help with any other problems you encounter with your youngest. Colic does tend to last for months though. I hope this will help you and your baby.
