I got my 4 1/2 month olds ears pierced 3 days ago and they look like they hurt her because she has a little red mark on the back of her ear and shes very cranky. Does anyone know if i could change they to screw backs yet? or if theres something i can put on the earring to make her more comfortable?

What can I do next?

Taking them out and letting the wounds heal will make her more comfortable. I really would let this be her decision when and if she wants her ears pierced. Poor baby!

that's an awfully young baby, and i'd be concerned with ANY sign of infection with a baby that young. i'd take those earrings out, put some neosporin on the wounds, if still red in a day or two, i'd let a physician have a look at her. if she has fever now, i'd see a physician now. health/safety is far more important than "cute", let her repierce them when she's older if/when she wants to.

Are you cleaning them at least once per day? They should have given you a solution to use. 3 days is too early to remove the backs. You should just be cleaning them and turning them. They are expected to be a little red, but if the redness gets to big and feels hot or if she is running a temp, she could have gotten an infection and would need to see the doctor.

Dont take them out. Its expected that this happens, just keep cleaning them with the recomended soloution and turn them every couple hours to get them to heal. She will be okay, it wont last more than a few days.

Too cute when babies ears are pierced I love it! I got mine done the day I was born and dont remember anything, and she wont either, no worries.

You should been cleaning at least 3 times a day with a special solution for that and turning them around ....if you take them out now they going to get close, unless you change the earrings for a gold ones ..
You can buy that solution on Claire's at the mall...and maybe tylenol if you think she's in pain.

Just make sure you clean them 3 times a day. make sure the earrings are real gold otherwise she could be allergic.

You are going to get a few responses that downgrade your decision to do this, i also waited until my daughter decided this on her own at age 7. There was a baby getting theirs done at the mall directly before my daughter did it, the baby fussed less than my daughter. I figure getting a babies ears pierced is like circumcision, not necessary, for looks, and although painful it will likely get done anyway, or at least the child will have wanted it done. So some people do it when there is little recollection, and anxiety cannot form about the process.

make sure you are cleaning them and turning them personally if it really looks like it is causing her pain i would take them out and wait until she asks for them.

ok heres what to do. toss out that nasty solution. its alcohol based and will dry her holes out. get some neopsorne and clean her ears with that. also turn them a couple times a day. be careful not to snag them on clothing that can make them irritated when they are trying to heal. i got my daughters ears pierced at 2 months old. she is 3 now and has never had an infection. i have however found out she is like me and is allergic to cheap metals.

Are you cleaning them???They need to be cleaned 3 times a day, turned them 3 times a day then change the earrings after a few months.Use the sloution they gave you when you had her ears pierced with a cotton ball or Q-tip,I put some sloution or alcohol in a travel sized spray bottle & felt it was cleaning them better.
Yes it will hurt if they are or get infected.

Don't take the earrings out yet - the holes will probably close up. I'm sure they told you that - you can clean them with the earrings in, but don't change the earrings for at least 6 weeks. My daughter had to get her ears pierced several times because they closed up. The first time they were only out for about 10 seconds and we could not for the life of us get the earring back in. I'm sure your daughter will get used to them after a few more days. (My daughter was 6 years old before we attempted it the first time.) The third time was a charm. Worked for good. She's 15 now. If you have to let the holes close up, do it later when she's older.
