Hi G.,

Your request brings back some very beautiful memories. My daughter who is now 25 yrs old had this problem with her legs and falling just like your daughter in her toddler stage of development. I took her to her Pediatrician and he assessed her by watching her walk and looking at her feet. His findings were that she would need "Special" made corrective shoes. He gave me a prescription for them and at the time the cost was about $75.00. But, I didn't care if they were $200.00, my love for my daughter was worth it. If I can remember correctly, she wore those shoes for about 2 years. Of course, those shoes did correct her legs and feet.

Some kids are "bowlegged" because of the way they were positioned in the womb and majority of kids do grow out of it. If you have a good Peds he will give you good advice and not Opt for some type of surgery, instead of trying non-surgical corrective action.

Looking back, I should have kept those "Special Made Shoes" because kids grow up so fast...:)

Kind of sounds like my 11 yr. old son when he was about a year old. He was very bow-legged, from the hips down. I took him to an orthopedic surgeon and he said that if they didn't straighten out in a year, he would put braces on his legs. They did straighten on their own. Try an orthopedic surgeon. You might need to get a referral from his pediatrician. Hope this helps.

I would ask her doctor about it. I know that I walk on the inside of my shoes and I tend to walk into things and lose my balance even at 34. I did mention the way my shoes wear to my dad a while back and he said that I should have had special shoes when I was a child and I am not sure why I didn't. I hope that you are able to get some information and help from your daughter's doctor. If not then I would find someone who will help you. Good luck!

Given your daughter's age, I'm sure she's been seen by the doctor plenty of times. Has your doctor ever expressed concern? All babies are born with legs that are a little less than straight, given the cramped conditions in the womb. I understand your concern, too. If you think your doctor might have just not noticed this, for some reason, then make an appointment to discuss it. While, if there is a problem, the doctor might not know exactly what it is, the doctor should at least be able to refer you to a doctor that can.
