I Did a Rude gesture...in Front of a School Bus!!

I feel awful. I park across the street from my daughter's bus stop as to not get in the way of the stop or where another mom usually parks. So, when I see that the bus is coming (since it's chilly)we wait in the car and cross the street when we see the bus coming. Twice there has been the same car that seems like they really try to go by right as the bus's stops sign is going up, and as we are crossing the street (granted, that car doesn't have a stop sign, but the bus does.

I held up my hand as to say - 'stop - there is a bus here and we are crossing the street'. When I got back to my car, I heard a honk, and I could have totally taken it the wrong way, but assumed it was that other driver honking at me and I, well, was rude.

I feel like an idiot. I really hope no kids saw me - should I call the school's bus district and apologize to the driver just in case? Should I take anger management :) ? I should just bring a jacket and wait with her and cross the street eariler. I figure if I'm beating myself up, this is the place to do it. Have you ever made a faux pas like this and beat yourself up for it???? GAH.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm also really cranky due to a chest cold, so I'm overly sensitive right now. Not a good excuse, I know!!!
And I'm apparently a wuss to all you northerners - haha! Good point, mamas. With a wind chill, it was around the high 30s I guess. A heat wave to some parts of the country :)

Awe, girl its ok! It happens, more like a reflex. Dont worry about it, I couldnt tell you how many times I have been flicked off and didnt care.
Luckily for me, I know my windows are too tinted in my car for people to see me giving them the bird so I just quit.

I kinda miss it.

Do NOT call the school bus district and apologize...unless your daughter comes home with stories of the children on the bus saying anything about it. If that is the case, then it is a time to apologize to your daughter for doing something that put her in an embarrassing situation. I do not think you need to take anger management classes, unless this reaction is something that is typical of you.
Use this as a learning situation for yourself...think before you react.
As to how to handle getting your daughter to the bus in the future...I would do as you suggested and put on a jacket and get her across the street when you see the bus coming down the street...not waiting until the last moment.
You can count on that same car coming by on an almost daily basis...since the bus comes at the same time everyday and that person probably leaves for work at the same time everyday...so I would do whatever you can do to eliminate the possiblity of interacting with the driver on a regular basis.
Don't beat yourself up about this...I can guarantee you that you are NOT the only one to react to something like this by being "rude"!!!

Oh honey, I killed Santa for some kid. Not literally of course.

I was waiting to pick up some wings at a restaurant and while I was waiting (the place was dead) the girl at the front counter and I started talking. The place was decorated with several very cute santas. I mentioned how much I liked them and told her that this was the first year my daughter kinda sorta understood santa. I also told her that I was a little bit at a loss on what to do, because we (my sister and I) were never allowed to believe in santa. So she says...
"Really? Not ever?"
"Nope, when I was five my mom told me that Santa wasn't real and not to let anybody lie to me about it."
Yeah, just about then this 7 - 8 year comes into my line of vision. I tried to back pedal and say, "Well of course she was wrong..." but I think it was too little too late. I told the lady that I felt awful, and if he asks just to tell him that my mom was mean and I was crazy. Ugggh.

If you are really worried about it appolagise to the driver but more than likly if it was the other car he was thinking and couldn't do. And as for Queen's comment about how cold it can be in Texas..... With the weather changing so much back and forth our bodies can't always handle it in the mornings when it's cold outside. No it might not be as cold as other places but we would not have an issue if our weather stayed cold we would get used to it. But here I can run my heat and ac in the same day.

This made me laugh, not in a bad way or anything. But I would have done the exact same thing! Only I wouldnt feel bad about it one little bit! The other car if he has done this thing multiple times KNOWS when the bus comes, knows what time it is, and KNOWS what he is doing is rude! So yeah I would have thrown up my hand to and gestured the same as you and mean mugged him too! Its so obvious that you are trying to get your kid on the bus, he cant wait just another minute to go by?

Do not apologize, if he honked at you then it just shows that he got the point of what you were trying to get across. Maybe he honked to say sorry! and not something in retaliation. Who knows, either way it doesnt matter. You did what you did and you have no reason to be sorry, or thinking anything more of it. What you did was NOT wrong. Hell if it were me he probably would have gotten a little bit of a tongue lashing for continually doing that but thats me.

So dont worry! Everything's all good!

Wonder if he will do it again tomorrow? Update us if he does! I'm curious!

Now go make yourself some hot tea and rest so you can feel better soon!

Apologize to the driver the next time you see him/her. It's not a really big deal. Just briefly explain and apologize genuinely and then be done with it. I accidentally hung up on my eye doctor's receptionist yesterday when my husband clicked in on the caller ID. My phone is crappy and it dropped her call AND his call. I called her back to apologize. She laughed and figured it was her phone since HER phone is crappy too.

The way I see it, apologies directly to the person you offended or may have offended is rarely ever a bad idea.

Tomorrow I'd wait on the corner with her, and then when the bus driver opens the door wait for the kids to board, and then just simply apologize to the driver & clarify that you weren't intending to reprimand her/him, but were intending it for the car driver.

Really, how cold can it get in Texas in the mornings? I'm a Midwesterner, so I am accustomed to walking outside when it is below zero. I'd just grab your jacket and wait outside with your daughter so as to prevent any future aggravations.

I don't think it was rude at all to put your hand up to that person. I call the cops on any car I see passing a school bus with the lights on. If the lights are off that's a different story...but lights on mean kids are crossing and they can be run over. I don't think you did anything wrong if they looked like they were going to pass the bus with lights on.

Maybe talk to the driver and tell him.her about this car, ask if they can do anything?

LOL, don't beat your self up, it happens, perhaps you are the cool mom now, at least for the kids in the bus, maybe no to the parents, lol.
I have giving the finger MANY times, very few on purpose.
Most of the time I have this awful thing where I scratch with my middle finger!
I have getting better but is something I just do without thinking and many times so embarkations, (damn you auto correct! I mean to say "embarrassing")
My daughter 2 days ago broke her middle finger nail at PE class, it was really really bad, we bought one of those things so it protects her finger, so she also can't bend that finger (not that she needs it for the nail, but it was the best to keep her top finger protected), no need to tell you what is like, I am glad I am not getting calls from the school, lol.

Doesn't it suck to get caught doing something stupid?? LOL...we've all done it (or something just as dumb)...let it go! I have to disagree w/ the person that said parking there was probably illegal. It only would be illegal if there are no parking signs posted. And anyone trying to pass a bus while it is stopped w/ the stop sign out, well, THAT is illegal. That's how kids get hurt!

So, maybe I just misunderstood...and I've parked at the bus stop, too, if it's raining or super cold...but only when I could...hard to do w/ lil ones! I guess it depends on where you are...subdivision or city.

Anyway, no worries about your rude gesture...let it go! And next time...just smile and wave!!! :)

Well, unless you are crossing in a painted cross walk you are breaking the law yourself. I would ask a local police officer to stake out the bus stop to give the driver a ticket but be aware, you'll need to cross in a crosswalk or at the corner if you don't want one too.

Even if he hits you, you are breaking the law too. Make the situation safer for everyone.
