I was not feeling well and without even thinking I took sudafed for almost a week. I did notice that my milk supply was decreasing but didn't put 2 and 2 together until a light bulb went off in my head at 4 this morning. I have been exclusively breastfeeding for 5 and 1/2 months. Last night I went to do my 12am pump and got nothing!!! WHAT CAN I DO. Did I ruin this??? I have been and continue to take fungreek. Is there anyway to get my supply back. I am extremely upset.

It took me about a week of 2+ night pumpings/feedings for my supply to return in full. Don't worry...if you are faithful to pump/nurse frequently (especially at night b/n 12-3), it will return.

Check out the info on this site - it helped me greatly to know I wasn't alone and that I could do something about it.

In addition to drinking as much as possible, make sure you are eating regularly as well. Your body needs calories to produce milk and if you weren't eating as much as normal that may have contributed to decreasing your supply. Nurse and/or pump frequently, your supply will come back up!

It sounds like you have gotten all the true advice you really need, so what I have is a word of encouragement. If you have been exclusively breastfeeding and your baby has not been excessively fussy or hungry then you have little to stress about. Take the advice below, pump after every feeding, eats oats and barley (I have my porridge right next to me!) and feed more often if possible and in a few days you should be fine. I have read however that the body can begin to become immune to herbal remedies, so maybe take the fenugreek for a couple weeks and then switch to the blessed thistle and back again. That ight help.
Good Luck--You haven't ruined anything!!

Milk is a supply and demand thing so nurse the baby often, drink plenty of fluids and in a couple days your milk supply will be fine.

Drink lots of water. I found whenever my supply got a little low, I drank lots and lots of water and it came back up. Also, of course, pump and feed your little one often.

Drink mothers milk tea 3or 4x a day also fenugreek, oats and yeats also help. So eat oatmeal and oatmeal raisin cookie (yeats)or beer. You'll be fine. Also pumpbefpre + after next two days of feedings....it will be back! Whenever u feed, milk is activated, pumping doesn't activate it.
And drink tons of water!!!

hi cassie, dont worry, if you have been exclusive for this long you should be able to increase again with a little bit of dedication, which you obviously have. just nurse as much as possible, especially overnight. it can help to do each breast twice in a sitting, switch back and forth, even if its just for a few minutes the second round, and even if you dont get anything at first, just stimulate it as much as you can. when the baby has had enough, do a little pumping too whenever you can, but not in place of nursing, as a supplement after nursing. again, even if its just for a few minutes. drink lots of water, no caffiene or meds, and add oatmeal to your daily diet. real oatmeal with fake maple syrup (log cabin, aunt j, etc) the fake kind has fenugreek in it,, which will help. you should be back to normal in no time. take care, D.
