I will be returning to work around the first of January and I would like to continue to breastfeed my newborn son. I am a pharmacist in a retail setting (grocery chain) and I do not have the privacy or the time to pump during my two 10 hour shifts per week. I was thinking that the Whisper Wear pump might be the best since it appears that I can pump while working by inserting the pump into my bra. I will only be pumping while at work to relieve engorgement and keep my milk supply going. I have had no problems so far with my milk supply. I was wanting to know if anyone has used this pump and what you thought of it. I hate to waste $200 if it is not a good pump....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I have now been using the pump for 2 months. I only work 2 days a week so I mostly use it on those days and occasionally when I have to get out of the house. It is still working great! I would highly recommend it to any moms who think it will be tough to keep breastfeeding when they go back to work.

I got the pump and it is a LIFE SAVER!!! I love it!! I can pump in the car on the way home if my husband and I are out on a date and I can't get home in time for a feeding. It is not noticable under my shirt at all. The only thing is it does make noise. It sounds like a printer. I love it though and I am getting up to 6 ounces out at a time!!!

Sorry, I can not comment on the pump, but maybe this helps? Try the La Leche League website for comments or advice (www.lalecheleague.org) or check in with a Bestfed store. They have several stores around the valley, so there might be one close to you. They may have had experieces with that pump and would be able to advise on it or give you alternatives.
Good luck!!!

Hi T.-
I've never used it, but I found a website with reviews on this product that may be helpful:

It sounds like a few women really liked it, but most were not too impressed. I think the main drawback for using it at work is that several of the women said it's really loud, not quiet as advertised.

Have you ever pumped before? I've been breastfeeding my first baby for 8 months now and pump occasionally. If I am "full", I can pump out the appropriate amount fairly quickly. I just use the AVENT hand pump- painless and easy to use. I don't know anything about the pump you're looking at, but if it doesn't work out... you could probably take enough breaks during your work hours to pump as needed. Like I said, if you're full, you'll probably get quite a bit out in only 5-10 minutes. If you've never pumped before, I would recommend starting to now to get used to it. The more you do it, the easier it is... and plus, if you start now you can freeze your breastmilk so that your husband or babysitter can have a ready supply of milk when you're back at work. Good luck!

I have 2 friends who used the Whisper Wear. One loved it. She worked an Army desk job (ie, around embarassed teenage males all day long) and said she could pump everything she needed and never had to worry about excusing herself to pump.

The other hated it--she said it didn't have enough suction to get the job done and it was messier than advertised.

If you're not planning on trying to "keep up" with pumping enough to feed the baby while you're gone, after a month or so you may not need to pump much @ work at all. Especially if you're always on the same schedule and you don't nurse during those times on the days you're off.
