Has anyone under the age of 30 had a hysterectomy? I was just curious as to the experiences anyone may have encountered after an abdominal procedure. Any information would be helpful.

What can I do next?

May I ask what the rare condition was? I'm considering a hysterectomy. I'm 29. I have endometriosis and ovarian cysts. Tons of pain that make for a poor quality of life on most days. Thanks.

Hello J.,
I have my hysterectomy almost 3 years ago, 2 months after I delivery my baby boy, the doctor have to removed everything ovaries and uterus, I was 32 years old when i have it done, since I have some problems during my pregnancy with the placenta attached to the walls and i have a cyst in my uterus and a lot of cysts in my ovaries too.
my suggestion is ask a lot of questions to your doctor.
are they going to removed both ovaries?
let me know so probably I can give you some advises.
GOOD LUCK, everything will be ok.

I had a hysterectomy when I was 28 years old after years of ovarian cysts and endometriosis. I had had a total of 16 major and minor surgeries before having the complete hysterectomy. My surgery went well.I had a bikini cut so the incision was hidden. I took hormone treatments for about a year with very few problems. However, as I got older I found that the treatments had some negative side effects.I now drink plenty of soy milk and take lots of calcium and vitamin E. I have had few menopausal symptoms and am doing quite well. It's been years now and I lift weights regularly and watch what I eat since the weight gain can be a problem.

Hello J.,

My mother had a hysterectomy about 25 years ago.(She was 28 when she had the operation) She always tells everyone its the best thing she ever did. I was talking to her about having one because I had uterine Cancer. She kept her overies so she did not have to take any hormone replacements until she was over 55 when she went though the change. Her operation at the time went extremely well and she loved not having to deal with that time of the month any longer. I have also talked to other family members who have had the procedure loved the results. I also had asked her if it made her feel like less of a woman not to have her uterus any longer and she said no... that she still had sex drive and felt better about herself because she wasn't sick anymore.
The only abdominal surgery I have had is a c- section when I had my son 10 months ago. I know from that I had a good size scar but it took about 6 weeks before I was ready to really get up and move a whole lot. But I didn't have any complications and I am willing to do it all over again sometime next year. I just recommend that you have someone around to help you with things if you have the procedure done. Maybe see if you could have someone clean your house and fix a few meals for you while you recover... Good luck to you and I wish you all the best.

I had an ectopic pregnancy removed and according to my Dr, since my tube was cut out and all, it is VERY simular to a Hyterectomy. I have some scarring and other than that all I have wrong now is an occasional pain in the area due to internal scarring. I was 26 when it was done just at 1.5 yrs ago. My dr insists some ongoing pain is normal. Im not sure if this helps but I sure hope you get better soon.

HI J..

I had a hysterecomy when I was 32, it was necessary due to non stop menstrual bleeding. At first I took hormones but I weaned myself off of them the biggest side effects I have noticed are hot flashes & mood swings. Everyone tells me to try natural hormones but I am soooo bad at taking pills I always forget. Which is how I weaned myself off lol But anyways you have the comfort of not having menstrual cycles & being able not to worry about birth control or accidental pregnancies. Now physically I did not have any problems until I lost over 100lbs & my bladder has shifted I see the doc on that tomorrow. My mom also had hers @ a very young age 27 I think. & she did take her hormones everyday with out missing one. The only problem she ever noticed was also the shifting of her bladder & had to have surgery to correct it. So if you notice a change in your urine habits or find it dificult to go or leak please see your doctor. It is 100 normal for this to happen. Both me & my mother had full hyserectomies I do not know if it happens on partials. I hope this helps & that many others that have had this experience come forward & share with you.

Good Luck.

J.,

My friend, Jeni, is 29 years old and I asked her if she would have anything to say to you in response to your request. This is it:

"I had a hysterectomy when I was 28, almost a year ago. It took me about 4 weeks to recover. I took my time recovering because I have had surgeries before and find that if you don’t take your time, your body will make you take your time. My advice would be to get some movies and some good books. I know that it is hard with kids because I have two of my own. My smallest just turned two when I had the surgery. So far I have been very happy with the results of the surgery. I have had no complications and have enjoyed not having a period. My husband and I enjoyed our first vacation without a period and it was amazing. If you would like to know more info please contact me..."

And I will send you her personal information to your account/messages should you want to contact her personally.

Hi J..

I turned 28 in August and in September I underwent a hysterectomy. The proceedure I underwent is different than what you have experienced and therefore I may have different experiences than you.

But it is a hysterctomy just the same. I kept my overies though, as that was not my problem area. So of course I do not have to worry about HRT.

I am happy to chat with you if you like! I have yet to meet someone else as young to go through this. feel free to PM me!
