M.,

28 is young to have a hysterectomy but I can honestly say that it was the best decision of my life at 34 years of age. I had such horrible pain after my tubal ligation that I opted to have the hysterectomy. I went to a party 1 day after my suergery and continued to recover easily. I no longer have any pain and have had NO problems with hormone replacement. A physician friend of mine told me after the surgery that his OB/GYN friends have always told him that a woman should be done with her parts once she is done having children. I know that he is a man but I, as a woman, could not agree more. I have never felt better in my life. Good luck and keep your chin up!

Are you having a vaginal or abdominal? I had mine at 32 years old. The biggest thing is to spend the next few days making sure the house is caught up. Then two days before your surgery...stop doing housework. It is a low priorty item. Also start a reward program with your kids. Make them responsible for their rooms/chores and when they complete them then reward them. Sticker programs will work.
As far as hormone replacement well...you need to be careful. Straight estrogen is not normally recomended for women over thirty. Reason being that blood clots can and do arise. I had a total vaginal hysterectomy on 01/20/04 and was out of the hospital in two days. Three days after surgery, I was able to pick up and play with my grandson. Everyone's body recovery is different. I can come help you if you need it. My email is ____@____.com

First if you don't mind, may I ask why you are having the hysterectomy? Is there no other alternative? I had a friend who had one because of menstral pain, but it turned out she could have solved the problem in other more homepathic manners. If your decision is based more on birth control, I would advise having your tubes tied. I personally wouldn't advise having one because it messes up your hormones sooo drastically. It pretty much is like sending your body into menopause at the age of 28, not good.

Do a little bit more research before having this done. You can't have this procedure undone, so take it very seriously and have all the answers before hand!!!! Here is a web site you may find very useful http://nohysterectomy.com

Hi M. first of all let me say at 28 I hope you have had at least two doctors confirm you need this D.. that seems very young. I had mine at 44 and that was 3 years ago I am fine I had no problems with hormones or anything else and the best part periods are gone and who wouldnt love that? my youngest daughter was 2 at the time my husband helped with her but honestly I recovered very quickly. your two oldest should be alot of help for you if they are anything like my two oldest granddaughters. My oldest daughter is your age, and also has three kids two girls one boy. I hope you have some friends and people from your church (who should help with meals). but most of all dont freak out women go through this everyday and have for many years. Choose to be positive. and I will pray for a speedy recovery for you and I will pray for you kids too. Is your mom close by can she help with things? I know I would be by my daughters side she was by mine when I had it D..Love in Christ Vickie IT DOESNT SEND YOU INTO MENOPAUSE THAT IS A MYTH!
